This pitch road of Pokhara is made from Waste Plastic by Green Road Waste Management. Almost 1 ton of the plastic has been used to make 1 km road. Plastics melt at around 120-170 degree Celsius, where no gases are evolved. But once the temperature reaches 270-300 degree Celsius then gases like ethane, methane. etc starts to evolve. And when it reaches 700 degree Celsius (where it BURNS) then the toxic gases like Carbon monoxide and Carbon Dioxide starts to evolve and in this process we are only MELTING the plastics (170 degrees max) and not BURNING them. Why plastic road? 1. Plastic works as a good binding agent and makes the normal road durable 2. Plastic wastes are managed without emission of toxic gas 3. Bitumen is saved. If we can't refuse it, Let's reuse it. Lets "Beat Plastic Pollution" |

Hello Kushal, finding 100% appropriate answer for any environmental problem is not the right answer. However, making contemplation and finding 'almost proper' answer is available since we cannot find absolute solution to solve it.
I once heard of this plastic road but this is the first time for me to see the road in actual pic.
It was such an iconic idea and implementation of taking 'very feasible' solution to solve tons of plastic rubbish.
Thanks for introducing plastic road and its description!
Keep up with your work!

Hello Kushal
'If we can't refuse it, Let's reuse it.'
This is a great phrase that we should keep in mind! The current environmental problem comes from the fact that we are using more than what we actually need. So the immediate action that could be taken is to actually reduce the amount of using and reusing those that are used once. This makes it possible to use the remaining values that are in the once used materials!
Nice report :)

It is very interesting!

Nice information regarding beat plastic pollution. Plastics can be utilized in many ways and this is the one.

@Rosa As stated in the report plastics are melted at around 120-170 degree Celsius, where no gases are evolved.

Hi Kushal!
What a nifty way of recycling plastic. It really takes out the eyesore of plastic littering grounds. I completely concur that plastic is a durable and long lasting material. But I do have one question: where are the gases diverted? Or are they release back into the are?
Other that that I say enlightening report!
