Uganda saw a light specifically in mbarara as Ministry of Energy and mineral development with support from Eskom Uganda limited through Energy without Borders Foundation organised the sustainable energy campaign 2018 at Boma grounds from 23th-28th July 2018, the campaign is in line with the ministries priorities of increasing access to modern energy services through rural electrification and renewable energy development and promoting the efficient utilisation of energy resources. It is an extension of the annual energy week that usually happens in Kampala. The campaign was encouraging Ugandans adopt the use of renewable energy and energy efficient technologies. encouraging electricity users to change from non efficient appliances to efficient ones. Eg from use of incandescent lamps to LED lamps) Encouraging electricity users to shift non critical loads from peak to off peak periods. Education and creation of awareness among the general public on behaviours that promote sustainable energy utilisation. This years sustainable energy campaign is the 4th edition since its inauguration in jinja (4th to 6th December 2015 at Rippon Gardens) The theme for the event" Access to clean energy a bridge to sustainable development" The week was full of fun and interactive sessions including Road shows, Radio shows ( Vision radio mbarara, Endigyito Radio), Interviews, Dancing competitions to inspire and lead on Clean energy awareness and participation. Glad to have represented Fika afrika advocacy foundation an organization strengthening and building young people networks in leading environmental advocacy, participation and networking in Africa. I educated people about alternatives and benefits of LED Lamps' Great thanks to Muyinda Ismail ( Co-Founder Energy without Borders) for the invitation and for the opportunity to lead the voice of the youth during the exhibition, Ismail was the chief organiser of the event. Over 20 companies exhibited new energy technologies. The objective of the campaign is to promote efficient usage of energy by positively influencing the public on efficient utilisation of energy that in turn reduces the energy demand. This is good for the environment as well as for the consumer who gets a lower energy bill. objective was achieved.
