Hi everyone! My name is Lisa Zaretskaya. I would like to draw your attention to my 12th report related to Noise pollution in Taipei (Taiwan). In the 21st century, noise pollution has become very frequent and relevant, especially in large cities. Obviously, noise affects people's lives, so many people suffer from migraines, depression and stress. The last meeting of our ecological club was devoted to noise pollution in Taiwan. The student Sergey Huang made a report on this problem. He told us that over the past ten years, noise has been ranked as the number one environmental complaint, reaching record numbers each year. The fact that noise is both a material object that has the capacity to cause emotional and bodily harm, as well as a discursive object that mediates social relations between subjects and the state. Still, the difficulty of noise to become an agreed-upon environmental issue is perhaps what makes it a classic sociopolitical problem. Even without strong public support, noise in Taiwan remains an ongoing issue, energizing citizens in a continuous, decades-long negotiation with government officials over environmental rights, public health, and government accountability. Thank you for your attention. Our marathon will be continued?? |

Hello Elizaveta, I totally agree with what you said about noise pollution in your report. To add on, it also needs to be covered in the viewpoints of environmental justice, as the poor or the isolated are easily forgotten or restricted to participate on noise-making facility or government-led region redevelopment.
Thanks for introducing them, and keep up with your seminar marathon! :)

Hello Elizaveta
Noise pollution is a severe problem that not many people actually recognize the seriousness of it. Noises could occur from various sound sources including such as construction noise to talking sounds. As living styles are changing to apartments rather than separate houses in many areas, noise between floors is also becoming a daily problem.
Thanks for sharing about your marathon :)

Ok well. Will be waiting for the marathon to continue.
Noise pollution is an important issue and thanks for broaching this subject.

Well reported Lisa. I also feel that people don't take noise pollution seriously because of how difficult it is to be brought to light among other important issues like air and water pollution. It is however an equally important subject to talk about because, as you have mentioned it can cause both emotional and bodily harm.
