Plastic Reuse outreach at OLA Junior High School in Bolgatanga

by Isaac Azumah Abugri | 07-09-2018 00:14 recommendations 1

On 24th July, 2018 at exactly 9:15am, I was at the OLA junior high school in Bolgatanga in the upper east region of Ghana to engage the students in an activity to help reduce plastics in the country. The activity was to teach the students how to reuse sachets to make pencil/pen bags so that they do not throw the sachets away after drinking water. The other reason was to introduce Tunza Eco-generation to the students.

First of all, I introduced myself and Tunza Eco-generation to them and told them my purpose for coming to their school, they were happy and eager to learn and so I walked them through the steps and answered some questions.

I then shared the materials needed for the activity to them. The material included sachets, thread, needle and zipper. After sharing the items, I then guided them by demonstrating each step and allowing them to do same.

There were some who grasped the idea quickly and there were those who needed more guidance. It took us almost three hours but at the end of the day, everyone had produced a bag from the sachets.

The participants were then given Tunza Eco-generation souvenirs and they were very excited. They were happy with the fact that they produced something on their own from scratch.
