This summer the world suffered from many natural disasters. Indonesia went through a strong earthquake that caused a huge tsunami and Japan is now going through a horrible typhoon that is going through-out the country. Almost all countries experienced dynamic heat waves and suffered from it severely.

One of the elements that creates a typhoon is warm sea water. The ocean is being heated up by global warming which makes the typhoons to contain even much strength and intensity. Warm and moist air becomes a giant engine for a typhoon. Warm air and water rises above the surface and creates an area of low pressure. A typhoon is formed when high pressure pushes into the low pressure.

Korea went through a strong typhoon this summer. It was just a month ago. There had been reports that strong winds and rain poured in Jeju Island, an island located at the most southern part of Korea, and people were missing. The wind took them away. Signboards from shops fell off from buildings and were blown away by wind as if they were just a piece of paper. There were people who couldn?t even stand still because of the wind, cars pushed away, a huge tree falling down, and seawalls going missing near the shore. This was the ?Typhoon Solic?. It struck Korea in August and schools were forced to close so that students wouldn?t be injured because of the storm. The meteorological administration predicted that this typhoon would go through Seoul and cause a huge damage to Korea?s economy. Luckily, this did not happen due to another typhoon that was approaching Japan. It was moving at such a high speed that it slowed Typhoon Solic down to move to the Eastern side and not come near Seoul.

The earth has gone through many natural disasters and those were to change what used to be before and start again from a very beginning. This is also a signal that is trying to tell us something. Nature is not easy and we should not try to cause any damage to it. It is not our place to try to take control of it.

    Hello Jeewon
If you type in 'global warming' in one of our portal sites, you may see a lot of issues relative natural disasters that are gaining tons of power added, triggered by global warming. It is true that typhoons and hurricanes are becoming stronger and bigger as it is in close relationship with increasing power of climate change and global warming. Unfortunately we are facing severe natural disasters as day pass.
We need think about this carefully.
    Thanks for your report!

    Hello Jeewon
The typhoon that came this summer ed a lot of people and many people listened on the news for information for proper preparation for the possible threats. However. Jeju island still had fearce time during the typhoon days and destruction was quite reported.
It is quite imposible to stop a typhoon from coming but we could at least make expectations and educate people how to prepare for it!
    Thanks for the report :)

    Hi Jeewon!

The events that happened in Japan and Korea are very unfortunate and I wish for the safety and security of many. You are absolutely right, typhoons and other natural disasters are Earth's way of changing its terrain and should not be controlled by no man. Instead, we should give way to such events and pick up whats left afterwards. what we can do as a people is to just ensure our security during such disastrous events.

Really, a mind opening issue that you raised. Informative report Jeewon, well done!

Hello, thank you for your great report. The title which you chose is indeed food for thought. I agree that we should not take control of nature - we should try live in agreement with it.

Well written report! There have indeed been many natural disasters this year all throughout the world and I agree that these disasters should be looked at like a signal or a warning from nature. People should recognize this signal and contribute to putting a stop to global warming.
