A lot of environmental policy have already been implemented in many places of the world. In some developed nations they are proving to be a very effective legislative measures and in some places they are only limited to the papers. Since the topic of this month is about the environmental policies which should be implemented according to my view, so here are some of them.

First of all the major focus should be on updating and correcting all the existing policies. Many of the present policies were formulated a long time ago and in an un-complete manner. The present scenario and definition of environmental hazards are changing every day. New laws should be updated to cover all such areas. An example of such scenario may be the inclusion of nuclear pollution, thermal and light pollution in the existing laws.

Similarly, the laws should be formulated in such a way that the guilty is properly punished. In many countries (Nepal) the guilty is punished with a very little penalty. The fine for even a major environmental crime is way less than the actual cost of the crime. Criminal charges of few months in jail will never be enough to make the guilty realize his crime.

The new laws should also focus on proper utilization of the environmental charges paid by the developed nations to the developing ones. Though such compensations were intended to help the developing and poor nations withstand the environmental hazards but they are not being used in environmental sector.
