Different countries have different policies about a variety of environmental issues, including energy, pollution, biodiversity, and more. Korea is no exception, and with its distinctive regional environmental issues, there are several unique environmental policies that are being implemented in the nation and/or could be in the future. An example of Korea’s environmental policies is the volume-rate garbage disposal system. This is a system in which the volume of the garbage affects how much you pay for disposing the waste, which includes food waste, non-recyclable waste, etc. This can be done by requiring all waste to be disposed of in regulated bags with different sizes that cost differently and collecting the recyclables for free. Also, the producers would be motivated to use recyclable materials in the process because the government would be giving incentives for those who use the recyclables. According to Seoul Solution, “the volume of waste generated in Seoul decreased by 8% in 1995 and 11% in 1996” after the implementation of this policy. To expand the policy into the issue of biodiversity, implementing clear incentives for not damaging the natural environment when developing the area would support biodiversity and help solve problems such as deforestation due to construction, farming with fertilizer that pollutes the water sources, and more. https://seoulsolution.kr/en/node/6326

Hello Soyeon, thank you so much for introducing the volume-rate garbage disposal system of our country :)
Not sure whether other countries do also have this system, but what's for sure is that this makes people become 'responsible' and 'get acknowledged' about the amount of garbage they throw out at least.
It is true that many get used to throw it away relentlessly it still has its keen and perfect objective to trigger decrease of waste in the end.
Thanks for introducing this system to other regional ambassadors!

Incentives and cost based policies do work as they motivate people to follow the hidden aim.
As I think back, We really did have more people doing recycling in my region!
