However, net deforestration at the global level occurred at the rate of 0.14 percent per year between 2005 and 2010. Even, some of institutions based forestry stated that the net loss of forest area was 1.3 percent over the ten-year period.
Deforestration is an eco-cide against the culture of peace by disturbing the environment especially forest. If it is not recently mitigated, the unwanted side and negative effects will influence economic, social and ecological aspects.
The deliberation of the United Nations Intergovernmental Forum of Forests revealed that the lack of participation, including children and youth on maintaining forests was one of the causes of deforestration. It should be established by a green initiative which able to be initiated early.
The initiative which has been developed by Adisti Permatasari, a young forester is a child foresters school. This project collaborates with the Indonesian Green Action Forum (IGaF) and the International Forestry Students? Association (IFSA) as well as some of elementary schools in Situ Gede Village nearby the CIFOR Headquarters.
The intents of this project are to educate children on conserving tropical forest from deforestration by certain forestry education and to create early the young foresters as a strategy on accelerating Sustainable Forest Management. It is one of solutions beyond REDD+, but it has the same goals to settle deforestration.
Yet, the school of child foresters has been directly supported by IGaF under auspices of UNESCO Office Jakarta, UNEP TUNZA SEAYEN, Eubios Ethics Institute and TUNZA Eco-generation. To succeed the program of being sustainable and giving the tremendous impacts towards forest, Ms. Adisti initiates to involve volunteers who come from IFSA members. She never as much as questioned the endeavour of the volunteers because of their advisabilities in forest realm.
There are some imperative sequences to educate children in ascertaining the overwhelming effect of deforestration, including kid?s knowledge enhancement to forest, introduction of forest and the environment, forest tracking and creating colportage as well as the evaluation. The most influential step is as introducing what forest and the roles of forest are. Many curious statements regarding the important contributions of forest to humankind occur, if it is reviewed in comprehensive valuations in economic, social and ecological aspects.
The sequences have been obviously acknowledged to be able to assist the positive traits establishment of children. By building their positive characteristics to forest, it is able to encourage them of understanding the important roles of forest to human life.
Child young school is not the new initiative coming from the young forester such Adisti?s idea. However, her idea has help at least on mitigating the degradation of forest. By reviewing the above, the program is expected to be expanded widely in the targeted area with involving many children. Children are both objects and subjects of the program which is in accordance to UNESCO?s part particularly in early education. We, environmentalists, are finally so proud to her attempts on creating the better future of forest by building such school
