The traditional application of medical plants is high socio-economic importance in most West African.In Burkina Faso, Niger, and Ghana more than 80% of the population uses medical plants.In Nigeria over 90% of the rural and over 40% of the urban population depends on Traditional medicine.The use of fooder plants is of particular importance in the semi-arid and arid parts of the Sub-region where production of cattle, sheep, goats, donkeys and camels is amajor activity.Main fooder plants include Acacia spp, Commiphora africana, pterocarpus, faidherbia, balanites aegyptiaca and prosopis juliflora.During the dry season forage provides an important additional ource of fodder.Trees forage contributes to 25% of fodder supply for ruminants in Niger.In the Nigerian Savannah areas which host more than 90%of Nigerian livestock,forage contributes to 10 to 15% to livestock feed
