Flush - An Inspiration to Young Leaders |

For me, a memorable book related to an environmental issue would be Flush by Carl Hiaasen, the author of Hoot (also a book about the environment, centering around habitat loss of burrowing owls) and many more. Hiaasen has written other books about the environment, such as Scat and Chomp, so I recommend that other people read those as well. The book revolves around Noah Underwood, a boy whose father, Paine, is an avid environmentalist who has been arrested for sinking down a ship called Coral Queen after it allegedly spilled sewage into the ocean, according to Paine. Noah and his friends learn that this is true, yet there is no evidence proving that Coral Queen is causing marine pollution. They decide to flush (hence, the title) food coloring down the toilets of the ship to expose their perpetration of the sewage spills and succeed at the end. Flush highlights the importance of action by the youth to protect the environment, as the protagonists leading the story are teenagers determined to keep the ocean clean and hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions. As we are also youth leaders that raise awareness about environmental issues in our communities, it is easy to relate with Noah and his adventures on his journey to protecting the natural world around us. So, when you are feeling overwhelmed about leading the environment movement, think of this story of young protagonists, just like us, taking action for one goal: protect the community and the planet.

Hello Soyeon, role of youth and young generation is getting important as complex social problems do appear and arise, and it is not something that we can get rid of in a few days in a short term.
Concentrating on workouts and priceless experiences such as many trials to establish ocean cleanup project by Boyan Slat and others would truly affect other teenagers or adolescents in positive direction :)
Thanks to media and its outsourcing, hope we can get better off and advance in neat future!
And thanks to So Yeon for introducing a nice book to us :)
