Eco Tourism in UAE

by Lohita Swaminathan | 14-01-2019 02:32 recommendations 0

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) in the UAE has unveiled its National Ecotourism Project.  The aim is to shine a light on the country¡¯s ¡®natural wonders¡¯, and capitalize on the growing trend for global ecotourism. The project is clearly a tourism drive, it is also focused on preserving protected areas of the UAE.

MOCCAE is launching a microsite and app which pinpoint various prime ecotourism destinations.  These include Abu Dhabi¡¯s Mangrove Park; Dubai¡¯s Al Marmoum Reserve; Fujairah¡¯s Wadi Wurayah National Park; Sharjah¡¯s Sir Bo Na¡¯air protected area; and Ajman¡¯s Al Zorah Natural Reserve.

¡°The National Ecotourism Project is a result of the country¡¯s commitment to preserving the environment. Over the past few years, the pioneering vision and directives of the UAE leadership have enabled the country to consolidate its leading global status across diverse sectors, with travel and tourism at the forefront. The project has three phases, focusing on environmental, economic and social factors.

The website and app aims to raise awareness of the protected areas, both at home and abroad.  It also hopes to encourage travel agencies to include the sites in UAE packages. The portal and app will serve as an information and visual resource that UAE embassies across the globe and national airlines can use to introduce these attractions to the world.

For the project to become fully-fledged, the UAE seeks to leverage the fast-paced development witnessed in all sectors, particularly in the sustainable tourism domain that includes eco-friendly flights, hotels, beaches and campsites. Ecotourism promotes sustainable local agriculture and combats desertification while also contributing to GDP.

Hello Lohita, this is indeed a wonderful news!
Tourism always had its both sides and the negative side was mostly that it triggers pollution.
However, by bringing eco tourism in to place, now it seems that a more sustainable greener touring management could stem into this industry.
Hope that this would result win win in the tourism industry and the protection of our environment!
    Thanks for sharing :)

Hello Lohita, even my country is looking for providing new, huge eco-tourist packages to civilians and foreign tourists in near future but there is still voice against it since preserved nature can be disturbed or polluted due to human beings. We cannot ensure that 'any' of visitors will not do something bad to tourism sites but we have to think about the effect of 'direct visit and ecotourism advantages to young kids, especially the ones who will stand as future generation'.
Thanks for introducing UAE's ecotourism and your voice to send to us!

I am glad to know how UAE has incorporated technology along with eco tourism. This looks really sustainable and going to help the nation in both economic and environmental ways.

Eco Tourism can be also great importance to developing country like ours which is very rich in natural resources, biodiversity and beautiful scenario. Tourism is also backbone of Nepalese enconomy. Now, Eco Tourism must be promoted in global way.

Hi Lohita! Ecotourism is a very promising direction. Contrary to the view that tourism harms the environment, ecotourism, on the contrary, helps to preserve the eco - balance and draw people's attention to the problems of ecology and sustainable development.
It was nice to know that the UAE is a leader not only in the field of technology, but also in the field of ecotourism.
Thank you for the informative report!
