Strategies for Sustainable Development

by Natasha Singh | 11-02-2019 17:52 recommendations 0

Sustainable development can be achieved with the help of some efficient strategies. This will allow the present generation to utilise the give resources in a way that will serve the interests of the future generations. Currently, we are overwhelmingly dependent on thermal and hydro sources of energy to fulfil our power requirements, which leads to many undesirable side-effects on the environment. Non-conventional sources of energy like wind & solar power, nuclear energy etc. should be researched and developed further. In areas of high wind velocity, wind mills can provide electricity without any harmful effect on the environment. Tropical countries can use photovoltaic cells to convert solar energy into electricity. Use of cleaner fuels, as opposed to coal or petrol, can significantly lower air pollution. Mini-hydel plants are a fairly recent invention, which harness the motion of perpetual streams and rivers, particularly in mountainous regions. They can be used to generate electricity through turbines, which can be supplied to the local areas. These plants have the benefit of being eco-friendly and not requiring large-scale cables, wires, and towers. On the agricultural front, the use of chemical-based inputs has increased the amount of output per unit area of the land, but has leached the land of its nutrients and polluted the water bodies. This worsens the demand for irrigation. Organic farming can potentially offset this problem. For example, farmers can recycle organic waste to manufacture compost, which has better soil-conditioning properties. One measure complementary to this one is the control of biopests by green methods. With increased awareness about eco-friendly alternatives to traditional farming practices, use of pesticides has been limited to eschew the harmful effects it has on the biosphere. Farmers can employ other methods like mixed cropping and crop rotation to avoid sapping the soil of nutrients prematurely. Lastly, humans must change their unsustainable patterns of consumption and environmental exploitation. With rise in standards of living and increased consumerism, the resource base is getting stressed to a very large degree. It is vital to counter this to more awareness and consciousness. Desirable limits for production and consumption must be set and enforced through proper mechanisms and strategies.

Hello Natasha, use of renewable energies and advanced agriculture based consumption habit changes may help our globe step forward sustainable world.
We have used our energy sources and natural resources thoughtlessly and this has become one of the main problems for overall environmental problems and other relative issues within its range.
Your report covered this sequence and its correlation in it, making it easier for us to understand.
    Thanks for your report!

    Hello Natasha

Sustainability is required in every field. There are 17 sustainable development goals according to UN that we must achieve until 2030. We must act together and act now to achieve the goals. Thanks for mentioning strategies for sustainable development. I really loved your report.

    Keep writing beautiful report.
    Green Cheers :) :)

    Yours,
    Kushal Naharki
