Nepal Army Ban Plastic Usage in its Headquarter

by Deepak Subedi | 18-02-2019 04:18 recommendations 0

Carrying any kind of plastic product is now prohibited at the Nepal Army headquarter, four years after Kathmandu was declared a ¡®plastic-free zone¡¯ in 2015.

According to ICIMOD, Kathmandu alone uses around 4,700,000 to 4,800,000 plastic bags daily. In Nepal, 16 percent of urban waste is comprised of plastic, which is 2.7 tons of daily plastic garbage production in Kathmandu itself.

¡°Globally, researchers claim humans have produced 9.1 billion tons of plastic so far, and much of it ends up in nature—causing harm to both living beings and the environment,¡± according to ICIMOD.

Chief of Army Staff, Purna Chandra Thapa said that the decision to prohibit plastic products to keep the environment clean.
Speaking at the program, CoAS Thapa has urged all army units to participate in the campaign to keep the environment clean and make it a success. ¡°To make it more effective, we¡¯ve started the campaign from the Jangi Adda.¡±

Thapa also stressed on awareness on the proper management of plastic products – including those that can be reused.

Personally I am very happy with this very commendable work of Nepal Army.
It's been around 5 month I launched my campaign and I conducted several Awarness program such as  plastic pollution, food waste, environment conservation, environment education in 5 different schools.
I wanna thank Nepal Army for this beautiful decision.
Thank you :)

Hello Deepak, government-led or government-related initiatives to start new environmental movement affect national acknowledgement about environmental problems. Common acknowledgement among people will make it easier to act against excessive plastic material usage.

It is such a wonderful news to hear about Nepal Army Ban Plastic Usage in its Headquarter. We must focus on beating plastic pollution from all the levels so that we can beat Plastic Pollution Together. Although there has been a few rules being implemented, there has not been concrete rules and regulation against plastic pollution.

Thank you for sharing such a great report.
    Keep writing beautiful reports.
