Priority species for conservation in the wilderness lands of a megadiverse country

This amazing work it is a reflect about the great work from my team denominate BIOFUTURA A.C. with two of the most important biologist to Mexico Alfredo A. Rosales and Jonatan J. Morales.

The populations of conservation priority species have declined dramatically and with them the intrinsic value of the same to the ecosystem. Somehow anthropocentric actions have been to decimate the species with which we coexist sometimes to exterminate even without understanding the processes that represent valuable to the health of the environment. As this work is the result of a exhaustive review of the problematic of Mexican jaguar, which that despite efforts are insufficient and every day this and other wildlife are in danger of disappearing Currently estimated an approximate population of jaguars in Mexico 4022 (Cenjaguar 2012), population decreased dramatically since the colony was accentuated with the industrial revolution, caused an estimated loss of more than 70% of its original distribution and decreased over 50% of the individuals of his population, public policies have not been sufficient and conservation strategies are inadequate. Current studies of the jaguar (Panthera onca) in Mexico are very important, but problems such as hunting, habitat loss and lack of knowledge about the needs of other species with which we coexist continue to cause the decline of this and other species. Also strategies like umas (Environmental Management Units) do not meet the objective of supporting indigenous communities so clearly is necessary to correct the path of conservation. If we preserve the jaguar in Mexico and America will achieve to protect other wildlife and their ecosystems. So this study reconsiders the issue of conservation with a model based on the integration of wildlife as an entity with rights, was made a map of the potential distribution of the jaguar in Mexico using environmental and social factors affecting the species, considering networking sites as well as sites that need to reconnect due to problems such as land use change, climate change, human settlements.

The results are clear we need to rethink the current view we have of the species with which we coexist as the jaguar or condemn them to extinction. So the correct development and making appropriate decisions are urgent if we want to rescue important part of the biodiversity of the area.

To Mexico it is estimated a population between the 4000 and 5000 Jaguars therefore it is imperative to take conservation measures for this amazing cat. :)
