Oil in Kenya |

In March 2012 oil was discovered in northern Kenya in a county known as Turkana. 10 trillion Kenyan Shillings was invested in the oil production and Kenya is poised to be the biggest oil producer in Est Africa. The first barrels from the oil wells were trucked to the refinery early 2018.
This has led to economic development. infrastructure has been greatly improved and jobs have been created locally.  Photo credits: Oil Price It has not been smooth however.
The local community broke into the oil site and paralyzed operations on June 29,2018. They were protesting insecurity and marginalization. There have been bandit attacks even as the oil exploration continued. They also wanted to be assured that 5 percent of the oil revenue goes to them. There have been allegations of theft. Corrupt employees smuggle crude oil out of the oil rig. Environmental degradation has happened as a result of the excavation and emission of dust and hydrocarbons. I will be keen to see how the government manages this great resource. Hello Bonface, oil production and its management are in close relation with international companies and relative organizations. As many groups do participate in oil production, it is easy to get away from needs and perspective of regional civilians, looking for profits and easy-to-get objectives.
Though not all companies and profit-pursuing groups, civilians won't really prefer someone from outside of their town to get involved in town affairs.
Taking many aspects into account before and during oil production will prevent such problems.

Oil has been an important resource to humans for a while and the discovery of oil sites in nations have brought changes to the country.

Even we the development activities and rapid infrastructure improvement, we might face into the problems if we aren't careful about environment. We must focus on the environmental aspects during the development too. Thank for sharing us about the oil industries in Kenya and the problems faced due to it.
