Green Economy Green economy is an alternative to today¡¯s Dominant Economy. The Green economy seeks to work as a prosperous financial system within the contours of a finite and fragile planet. Moreover, it looks for improving human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. Green Economy tries to link the economic, environmental and social considerations of sustainable development in order to achieved economic development by investing in environmentally friendly solutions. The term ¡°Green Economy¡± appeared in the late 80¡¯s, However since 2008 UNEP has promote this Economy through the identification of specific areas where large-scale public investment could kick-start a "green economy. By this way, UNEP encouraged more countries to implement significant "green stimulus" packages as part of their economic recovery efforts. Nowadays Green economy is seemed as a new hope for the century because it might benefit both developed and developing countries. A shift to a green economy will generate economic benefits. It is estimated that 18 million new jobs will be generated by the green economy by 2030. Other benefits of Green Economy include significant new markets for biofuels, and for renewable energy technologies such as solar panels and wind turbines. Green Economy could sound as an Ideal or Utopic system because its benefits are a wide range. It goes from improving energy security in the long run to securing food. Moreover, Environmentalists and businessmen could be both benefited from this system. However, it is important to keep in mind that transitioning to a green economy will not be an easy process, it does not happen overnight. The transition to a Green Economy not only involves institutional and governmental improvements, but also the consumer and businessmen adaptation to the new system. As citizens, we can also contribute and promote the transition to a green economy by supporting green Law and policies initiatives, and sustainable business. |
