INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

by Rafa Mohammed Ashique | 08-03-2019 04:59 recommendations 1

Today is international women's day and is celebrated on the 8th of March every year. I thought of sharing some of the women who have inspired me in protecting the environment.

Perhaps the best example of women's participation in environmental activities is represented by the work of Nobel Prize winner Wangari Maathai, the founder of the Green Belt Movement. In this movement, she and the participants have planted more than 30million trees. Her work restored Kenya's diminishing forests and has empowered women in environmental preservation techniques.

Vandana Shiva is someone else whom I really adore shes one of the ecofeminists I have known so far. She was brought up with the love of nature fostered by her parents. Much of her activism in this area has been achieved through a national movement she started in 1991 called Navdanya, whose mission is to ¡°protect diversity and integrity of living resources, especially native seed, the promotion of organic farming and fair trade.¡±

She has educated farmers across India the importance of nature and its biodiversity. She advises governments, international organizations, and is a leader in worldwide discussions.

    Hello, Rafa
Thanks for sharing this great report.
I really like how you linked feminism with environment and introduced ecofeminist in your article. Women's participation in environmental activities is as important as other fields
including economics or politics. I'd like to see more ecofeminists that you adore in your subsequent reports!
    Please keep writing beautiful reports.

    Hello Rafa

Happy International Women Day. I really loved your report. The UN 2019 theme for International Women Day is Think equal, build smart, innovate for change focuses on innovative ways in which we can advance gender equality and the empowerment of women, particularly in the areas of social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure. I do have written a report on Women and climate change, hope you do read that report to.

Keep writing great reports. We are eager to read more reports from you.

    Hi Rafa,

Thank you for writing this article, and it is very informative to know that Wangari and Vandana devoted themselves in environmental preservation. I would not be able to know them if you did not write about them in this article.

    Happy Int'l Women's Day! :)
