UAE and its Environmental protection |

Environmental issues in the United Arab Emirates are caused by the increase in population rate, demand for energy and exploitation of the resources. But nowadays several schemes and plans are made to make UAE an environmental-friendly place to live. UAE lies in Tropic of Cancer at which the Sun can be directly overhead. UAE has taken great steps in using solar power for generating electricity. The UAE is protecting the environment by banning private ownership of dangerous animals and sea dumping, implementing policies and legislation, making efforts towards sustainability and more. UAE has also reserved plant species In 2014, the UAE's Ministry of Climate Change and Environment completed the first phase of its date palm tree identification through DNA profiling with the UAE University. The project will also help increase the contribution of palm tree planting and date production to the country's gross domestic product. In UAE federal law Sea dumping and pollution is prohibited and anyone who does this will be strictly fined this protect the marine and coastal environment. UAE has also signed several International and regional environmental conventions that protect the environment. There are many youth groups and governmental organizations actively participating in the protection of environments. One such environmental company is Bee’ah by maximizing resource utilization, through a sustainably conscious recovery cycle. Bee’ah WI-FI bins are located in across UAE which gives free pack WI-FI using solar panels when recycled. They have also installed recycling bins which rewards you with coupons when you recycle plastic bottles and other such recyclables. Recently I have visited a city in Abu Dhabi which caught my attention. Masdar City is called the Zero-Carbon city. The water and energy demand of the city’s buildings is 40 per cent lower than that of the average building in Abu Dhabi. Each building in Masdar City is constructed with low-carbon cement, utilises 90 per cent recycled aluminium. Ongoing growth will eventually see 52,000 people living at Masdar City, whilst 40,000 jobs and student placements will be offered. Even transportation across the city is eco-friendly! There are several other technologies and means used to make the city a sustainable one. Hi Rafa,
I have heard a lot from newspaper regarding UAE's efforts in utilizing new technologies to reduce carbon emissions, and from your report I witnessed what UAE's doing which is very impressive! Your attached photo also helped a lot in understanding the content and I personally wish to visit Abu Dhabi in the future to see Masdar City with my own eyes.

Thank you for sharing your report! It's very glad to hear that there are a lot of
plans and actions are proceeding to stop the exploitation of resources in UAE. I was very impressed by Bee'ah Wi-Fi bins that saves both energy and encourage people to recycle more. I wish I could hear more of these kinds of environmental movements from every countries. And next time, I would like to hear from you about other technologies to make a city more sustainable that you mentioned!

Thank you for the report. I have read many reports about UAE from fellow ambassadors and I have always found the UAE government doing great with the environemntal activities. Thank you updating us about the works there.

Nice report. I fully agree to your view and opinion. I have visited Masdar city. It is really encouraging to see the initiatives taken by the government to make it a sustainable city.
