Climate Change and its impact of agriculture production

by Sachin Regmi | 14-03-2019 15:17 recommendations 0

Exponential growth of CO 2 and other greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere is causing climate change. Additionally, our behavioral pattern is adding misery.  It affects agriculture, forestry, human health, biodiversity, snow cover and aquatic to mountain ecosystems. Changes in climatic factors like temperature, solar radiation and precipitation have potentials to influence crop production. Despite many efforts possible on combating impacts of climate change, there are still difficulties in agriculture system.

I want to simplify the equation with an example. We have a predetermined chart of growth and production of seasonal vegetables and crops in our country. The same pattern is being adopted for time eternity. E.g. we plant paddy during rainy seasons. Local farmers are sharing only small knowledge of required shift in timeframe they have been using because the climate is behaving unnaturally. The same is causing great loss in total production and yield of these crops. Additionally, the pest problem management is a great loss either. Overall the farmers unable to cope with this shift in climate change are sure to bear greater loss in future.

The picture below represents the same in data-

    Hello Sachin

Climate change has serious impact on agriculture too. Nepal being an agricultural nation and climate vulnerable country too, we already are facing the impacts of climate change. Please visit my blog kushalnaharki.wordpress.com where i have shared a report on climate change and its impact on Nepalese agriculture and impact on climate change on small landholding farmers too.

Thank you for the report. Keep writing beautiful report.
We are eager to read more reports from you.
Green Cheers from Nepal :) :)

    Yours,

    Hi Sachin,

This is a great report that shows the effect of climate change in regards to the agriculture. In fact, agriculture is one of the areas that are severely influenced by the climate change. Personally, as my grandparents are farmers, I witnessed how agricultural environments of today is changing compared to the past, and they expressed that the change is VERY fast and the productivity is not as good as before. I also really like your picture which shows the correlation.

    Please keep writing good reports!

    Cheers,

    Hello Sachin!
Thank you for sharing this great information about the impact of climate change on agriculture production. I can't agree with you more on this issue. In last year, there were a lot of Korean farmers who had to take experience a great loss in yields of crops due to abnormal climates. Though it's not a fundamental solution, now many farmers use
crop hazard insurances and the number of insured farmers are increasing. It would be very help for you to research on this topic more and then figure out some other possible solutions that can deal with it.
