Nigeria; Wildlife conservation and ecotourism |

Nigeria is a giant country in the heart of West Africa with a climate that is eco-friendly and animal habitation supportive. It used to be home to many exotic and endangered wildlife species centuries ago, so what happened?, Why are we not on par with Zambia, Kenya or South Africa in ecotourism?.
One of many reasons is lack of education of the people on the need for wildlife conservation and it's importance to the ecosystem. Other reasons include lack of government focus on ecotourism, poaching, overexploitation, bush burning and lastly poverty. It has been noted that many people across different parts of the country would butcher a whale that wash up the shore, a gorilla that strayed or an hippo that was lost. Nigerians do not know the value of the barbecue they eat when they butcher crocodile or snakes and other wildlife in the name of 'bush meat'. Wild cats are not excluded from the list of animals that suffer damning fate in the hands of hungry people or those ignorant of the need to conserve. Government is also not doing enough in terms of protection of wildlife, research or animal care in entirety. Many animals die of lack of proper care in some zoos. This is also a call for the international community to help save the wildlife of animals, there are still some endangered species currently in some parts of Nigeria, some monkey species native to Nigeria also coupled with the point that we have water bodies, mountains and cliffs and many other geoclimates that make us a rich zone for faunal growth.

HI Abdul,
Thank you for telling us about endangered wildlife in Nigeria. In fact, endangered wildlife is a serious problem in many countries around the world. My home country, South Korea, also has the same problem and the government is trying to protect these animals by creating and enforcing the law/policies. I sincerely hope that endangered wildlife in Nigeria can be protected under a better environment as Nigeria has many beautiful animals that can be found nowhere in the world.
Great report, Abdul! :)

Hello Abdul Qoyyum Oriola
This is a great report about the wild animals that are endangered in Nigeria. After reading this report, I can learn about poaching, overfishing, burning rainforests, and harming nature. I also know that wild animals have been improperly treated. And this is not the status quo that continues, and more people are needed to save these animals. I hope you can write more related reports and thank you for your great report.

Hello Abudul!
Thank you for sharing this important issue. It??s very sad to hear that endangered wildlife in Nigeria are not well treated. As you pointed out, this is due to the lack of awareness. However, we cannot just force people not to hunt or not to eat wildlife animals. Instead, we should let them know that conserving them can actually bring more benefits to them. Ecotourism in neighboring countries would be a great example. I really like to read more articles addressing this issue! Next time, make sure you attach a related picture with your article.
Thank you for your great report!
