Climate change

by Muskan Priya | 20-03-2019 22:22 recommendations 0

Climate change is persistent changes in the  weather conditions all over the world. Climate system constitutes of five different parts atmosphere (air), hydrosphere (water), cryosphere (ice), biosphere (living beings), and lithosphere (earth's crust). Earth's weather patterns are changing continuously. This long term changes which usually last decades or even forever is a result of number of factors included various parts of climate system. But human activities through global warming are also a major factor for changing climatic conditions.

There is not as much awareness for climate change as there should be. The reason is negligence and ignorance. For people in India the temperature is increasing at an average of 2 degree Celsius. And due to this 2 degree increment the sea level is increasing 1 meter above the normal level. All the coastal areas are highly influenced by this.

India is a country where 70 percent of people are primarily dependent on agriculture for survival and livelihood. In India agriculture depends on favourable weather condtions. High temperatures can significantly harm farm productivity.

A personal encounter with climate change:
(2013 Uttarakhand Flood)

I remember it was 2013, I with my family and two other families were on a trip to Uttarakhand (a state in northern India crossed by the Himalayas) for pilgrimage that summer. We were coming all the way from Jammu Kashmir to take a holy dip in the river Ganges in Haridwar where it exits Himalayas. But the condition of Haridwar was terrific. Ganga was flowing heavier then ever. We were stopped to travel further as situation was getting intense. Local residents were worried. All the flights were cancelled. We couldn't take the holydip. People were stuck at some places. We had to cancel our visit to Manali and Rishikesh and so we came back to our home state Bihar. Later the situation got worst as of 16 July 2013, according to figures provided by the Government of Uttarakhand, more than 5,700 people were "presumed dead." This total included 934 local residents.

    Hello Muksan!

Thank you for sharing your personal experience to give an example of climate change. Most of all, I like how you gave a concrete definition of climate change first and then move on to the effect of climate change. Natural disasters have been always with human??s life but because of global warming, the frequency and scale of damage are increasing. Thank you for your report again and Keep up the good work!
