Mulberry, victim of climate change

by Asmita Gaire | 29-03-2019 23:45 recommendations 0

From the day when I learnt about Mulberry, it has always been my one of the favourite. I still remember even during my examination period, I used to rush to neighbour to eat those mulberries; and I had to listen many words from my parents but the tastiest mulberry were enough for me to make me happy. I was in primary level then.

Today, situation is entirely different. Mulberries that is supposed to be harvested on late spring is now ready in early to mid spring. I had to cherish for getting chance to taste them earlier than before. But I couldn't because I know it's because of climate change. I couldn't control over myself and tasted it; I thought my tastebuds had undergone some deformation since it was no more the one mulberry that used to cherish me before; it was entirely tasteless.

What do you think, the reason might be?
I thought, the only mulberry in Paklihawa had suffered it. But after reading report from one of our Eco Generation Ambassador, Mr. Kushal Naharki brother on mulberry; I realized other places plant are also equally victimized.

Climate change is happening. This is clearly visible now. Climate induced hazards that are expected to increase in future include more disastrous effects. This mightn't be the problems of single community or a single country. It's a global problem.

    Hello Asmita!

Thank you for sharing your personal experience of climate change with fellow ambassadors. I really like mulberries too and it??s sad that they are suffering from climate changes. The impacts of climate changes on fruits and crops are huge. The quality of fruits decreases and the time of fruit ripening is changing quickly. It??s sad for us to hear it but it becomes much worse for farmers who will suffer from huge economic loss. Thank you for your report : )

    Hey Asmita!

I do concur with you on the fact that climate change is happening. I too experienced the same thing with the peaches in my garden whereby they blossom latter in the spring.

Climate change is really taking a toll even on our food security and this is being seen with every passing year. I do hope that this matter does not stay too long unattended to otherwise we'll experience where far worse effects.

Thank you for the informative report Asmita and thank you for reporting take care :)
