[Feature] Air pollution at Cotonou in Benin, the case of motorcycles and what can be done |

Air pollution in Benin is a real fact. One of the phenomena that contribute to this pollution is a large number of motorcycles that exist in Benin especially in big cities like Cotonou. In 2011, according to Slate, 30,000 drivers of taxi-motorcycles circulated in the capital Cotonou, and 100,000 throughout the country. This critical number of motorcycles in the cities only aggravates the situation of air pollution. In Benin, there is also this culture of having one's way of traveling, and in most cases, people prefer to buy a motorcycle first. It raises the level of pollution in the cities of Benin. To face this problem, it is essential to develop public transport in Benin and put in place a system that allows people to use these transports. We must also plant trees in cities to make cities greener, which will improve the quality of air in our cities. Also, it may be necessary to return to certain old habits such as the use of bicycles. Thank you for your report about Air pollution at Cotonou in Benin, the case of motorcycles and what can be done. I believe that together we can beat air pollution. we can't stop breathing but we can stop pollution.

Hi Desire,
Thank you for writing this report and I cannot agree with more about the impacts of motorcycles on the air pollution because motorcycles create a lot of CO2. Air pollution is not a problem for few countries on this earth, rather air pollution is a global-wide problem because it basically affects all the countries. I am looking forward to hear some great initiatives to mitigate this issue.

Thank you for sharing a report about the air pollution in Benin. Transportation and excessive use of fossil fuels are the common cause of air pollution in most cities. I totally agree with you on that people should use more public transportation or ride a bicycle. Also, planting a tree is very practical idea to reduce CO2 as well. You're right, people should go back to traditional ways and use bicycle for the sake of the environment.
Not only for the people of Benin, but to the citizens of other countries should be educated about the seriousness of the current air pollution situation so that will motivate them to purchase bicycles instead.

The use of private vehicles like motorcycles had tremendously increased to the large limit in many nations. No doubt they are one of the major agent to effect environment.
