Green cheers from Tashkent! Living in a rapidly changing environment, we all understand that environmental issues are getting more and more essential, the usage of plastic, in particular. For more than 50 years, global production and consumption of plastics have continued to rise. Plastic is lightweight, flexible, and relatively inexpensive, it plays a critical role in maintaining food quality, safety and preventing waste. These given factors led to over-consumption of plastic goods. However, most of us do not realize that by using plastic goods, we unconsciously harm our nature that collapse biodiversity. As an example, a plastic bottle or packet is one-time use, yet we utilize many times, and after throwing it away, for us it doesn't really matter the consequences. It might be thrown away in oceans that lead to the extinction of animals, habitats of Waterland. Every year, 8 million metric tons of plastic end up in our oceans. It¡¯s equivalent to five grocery bags filled with plastic for every foot of coastline in the world. According to a scientific forecast, these results can be twice greater. The most important thing is they are biodegradable. The overwhelmingly largest unquantifiable plastic mass is just made of confetti-like fragmented pieces of plastic. There's a fact that over the next 65 years, annual production of plastics increased nearly 200-fold to 381 million tonnes in 2015. The drawbacks of plastic usage: -have a negative impact on oceans. -High-income countries tend to generate more plastic waste per person -Complex and could create negative knock-on environmental impacts. Hereby, I attach the ranking of plastic goods and undoubtedly, packaging in the first place! Moreover, Uzbekistan's main environmental problems are soil salinity, land pollution, and water pollution. Regardless of many other problems, the government is taking measures. For example, in the past, we did not use to buy plastic packages, but now we do! It costs 300 sums (0,04$). I believe that it's a great solution because whenever we bought drinks or something handy, we used to take it with us, yet now the situation is different. All in all, what I wanted to deliver for dear readers is I would be thankful if there's a takeaway in my report. Expect always good and be ready for bad, I am sure we are all power! As John Keates stated, ¡°The poetry of the earth is never dead.¡± Thank you!

Hello Vazira
Thank you for sharing this informative and thorough report with us.
Plastics have been the worst environmental problem. Despite of so many advantages that plastics have, the fact that they are not biodegradable cancels out all the good things.
I definitely had a takeaway after reading your report!
I will try to use cotton bag and thermos to reduce plastics used for packaging! : )
Keep up the good work!

Hi Vazira,
Thank you so much for the report and I really enjoyed reading it. But as I was reading your report, I feel a bit confusing because I could not really see the connection between the biodiversity and plastics in your report. FYI, May's topic is biodiversity. So I hope you may add some information about how plastics can affect the biodiversity.
Thanks,
Louis Mentor

Greetings Vazira,
Your report and especially the graphs which you've included in it seems very informative.
It is clear to see that packaging produces the most plastic wastes, far surpassing other factors.
Also, the enforcement of having customers purchase the plastic bags have been applyed to many other countries as well and its good to see that this is also the case in Uzbekistan!
Sincerely,
Eco Generation
