Benefits of organic waste utilization in the Environment ¡¤ Water and soil conservation and also protect ground water quality. ¡¤ Minimize odor from agricultural area. ¡¤ Avoid methane production and leachate formation in landfills by diverting organics from landfills into compost. ¡¤ Prevents erosion and turf loss on roadside s, hillsides, playing field and gulf courses. ¡¤ Reduce the use of pesticides and fertilizers. ¡¤ Off-farm material can be brought in an d add to manure to make compost. ¡¤ Facilitates reforestation, wetlands restoration, and wildlife habitat revitalization efforts by amending contaminated, compacted and marginal soils. Benefits of organic waste utilization in the Agriculture ¡¤ Long term stable organic matter source. ¡¤ Add organic matter, humus and cation exchange capacity to regenerate poor soils and buffer soil pH levels. ¡¤ Suppress certain plant diseases and parasites and kill s weed seeds. ¡¤ Increase soil nutrient content and water holding capacity of sandy soils and water infiltration of clay soils. ¡¤ Increase earthworm population in soils and re-store sol structure ¡¤ Brings higher prices for organically grown crops and provides opportunity for extra income In Context of Nepal In Nepal, with the increment in people interest in organic agriculture, more efficient use of organic waste is increased. Many NGOs and INGOs are conducting survey to manage the unlimited organic wastes of our livelihood and re use as an important products. The private company Bioscome Nepal in cooperation with nonprofit foundation my climate conduct survey in Kim valley. Wastes is the major problems of Ktm, and organic waste amounts to almost 70%of total wastes. It collects waste from the vegetable market to produce compost through an anaerobic degradation. In 2011,March this plant starts the pilot project and in first six month, it collects about 140 ton of organic waste from local vegetable market of Ktm and produce 15 tons of high quality compost. The demand of organic manure in our market is approx. 4,00,000 ton\year (70%of it is produced by demander themselves). This plant helps to reduce methane produced, mitigate waste problem of city, provide quality jobs to the local people, and helps to conduct organic farming. Now a days, many such plants and individual are engaged in organic wastes management to fulfill the increasing demand of organic manure and to make both soil and human health healthy. Organic waste isn't unwanted but it can be made wanted. It can become a nutritive manure if managed properly. Addition of processed organic manure in the soil helps to maintain the health of soil and human health. Organic waste become the main unit of organic farming and helps to replace the use of expensive and timely unavailable chemical fertilizers in some extend. Use of organic waste also helps to maintain environment clean and beautiful. Many people of Nepal are interested to the management and utilization of organic wastes so Nepal Government should give management and structure support to this sector to make whole Nepal healthy. |

Hi Kushal,
Thank you for informing us with a very interesting topic - organic waste, and I want to personally thank you because I am learning a lot regarding to this issue from your reports! As organic waste utilization actually benefits the agriculture, the government should encourage farmers to use organic waste in their farming unless the cost is not too high. Overall, great work!

Hello Kushal!
Thank you for sharing your second report on how to utilize organic waste! I have learnt so many things about organic waste through your reports! In particular, I didn't realize that there can be so many benefits of using organic waste but it seems that organic waste can be a great solution for both soil pollution and landfill problem. Thank you for all your time and effort taken to write this report! : )
