Hi everyone! My name is Lisa Zaretskaya. I would like to draw your attention to my report related to Biodiversity in Taiwan 2. This month we are discussing the topic of biodiversity, so in mid-may our ecological club gathered for a meeting. We continue our eco-marathon. The students Clara Sui and Anna Lee made two reports on this problem. Anna Lee old us that many of species go extinct naturally every year, but due to climate change and pollution the situation is getting worse. Clara Sui told us about the habitat of leopard cat it Taiwan. Then we discussed other rare species. For example, one of the most famous endemic species in Taiwan is the iconic Formosan black bear, Taiwan’s largest carnivore, which inhabits the upper reaches of the mountains along with the endemic goat-like Formosan serow. Endemic Formosan macaques have become common in Taiwan’s lower elevations, and several species of bats are likewise endemic. The endemic Taiwan blue magpie is perhaps Taiwan’s most famous bird, along with Swinhoe’s pheasant and the Taiwan whistling thrush. Yet another example of an endemic species is the acclaimed Formosan landlocked salmon. Many species in Taiwan continue to struggle to survive in a world increasingly dominated by human impacts. The study of biodiversity is in many ways the study of survival and reproduction, which offers important insights into the nature of life and even human behavior. Thank you for your attention.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful report with us! I truly enjoyed reading your article as it gave me a lot of insights. Most of all, yes, animals and plants go extinct naturally every year. However, according to a research conducted by UN, the speed of extinction has become 1,000 times faster than its normal speed. We must be concerned about this. Also, because of its unique geographical features, Taiwan is home for a wide variety of endemic animals. It is very sad to hear that many of them are becoming endangered. Keep up the good work and please keep us updated with what is going on in your ecological club. : )

Formosan black bear, I have heard it for the very first time.
Human activities have become biggest curse to these creatures. Hope all the Human would realize their importance for their conservation.

Hi Elizaveta!
Anna was quite right a number of species go extinct but climate change and Pollution accelerates the process. Taiwan has a number of endemic species, which is very good! And I do agree with what you said., biodiversity is a measure of reproduction and survival. But without the inclusion of all this external influences.
