World Environment Day Creative Challenge Report 2

by Kushal Naharki | 10-06-2019 20:00 recommendations 2

In my previous report about the World Environment Day Creative Challenge organized by me as Regional Ambassador of Asia I presented the view of the participants. I am overwhelmed for the heartwarming responses I have been receiving for my responses. Thank you ecogeneration team, mentors, fellow ambassador and ecogenerartion members for your support. In this report, I am bringing you the views of the other participants participating in the program

Bwalya Bwalya Regional Ambassador to Zambia says:

¡°Collaborative action is needed in order to achieve sustainable development. Grassroot education is needed in order to achieve mindset change. Furthermore, people need not just to be told to avoid pollution but shown alternative ways of carrying out day to day activities in a way that causes minimal pollution.¡±

Susmita Sigdel Agriculture student from Agriculture and Forestry University Rampur says:

"Agriculture accounts for approximately 10-12% of total global anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases, which amount to 50% of global methane. I would put forward the idea of Carbon Farming, which leads to increased carbon storage and decreased greenhouse gases emission.  Every tonne of organic carbon is equivalent of about 3.67 tonnes of atmospheric carbon dioxide. For more sequestration of carbon, it is utmost to increase plant biomass production by reducing soils constraints. Management systems that support a greater proportion of year under an actively growing crop or pasture are more likely to result potential gain in soil organic carbon. In addition to this, re-vegetation along waterways can improve water quality and have biodiversity benefits. Furthermore, integrating trees into agricultural system can protect soils, prevent erosion and provide

biodiversity. To the end, we must take an immediate action the need for carbon buildup in order to decrease excessive carbon emissions."

Sandhya Adhikari student from IAAS, Pakhlihawa says:

"According to US environment protection Agency, the air inside the average home is up to five times more polluted than the air outside.See the senario, and yes I totally can't stop breathing but can improve the quality of air around me.Studied including those performed by NASA have consistently shown that the plant like Sansevieria trifasciata commonly called snake plant removes the toxins such as formaldehyde compound that the house painting holds maximum, xylene, toulene, and nitrogen oxides.

So this World Environment Day , I planted the natural air purifier Sansevieria trifasciata which is considered as one of the best indoor plant for improving air quality. This plant absorbs toxins from the leaves ejaculating pure oxygen, as most of the plant take away oxygen at night in the absence of photosynthesis but this one gives off oxygen at night.

similarly I do have various ideas for the reduction in air pollution,

- Making the habit of proper disposing of pollutants if degradable then come on use it for the preperation of compost.

- Recycling of plastic instead of burning which can reduce 29%

   of global air pollution.

- Renovation of old vehicles and promotion of eco friend vehicles.

- Plantation of tress on the road side as air pollution purifier.

- Replacement of firewood stove with biogas and LPG gas.

- Introduction of technology for air purifier plant."

Binayak Timilsina student from IAAS, Lamjung says:

"The world population has reached to 7.6 billion in present senario to meet demand of these people large number of defforestration should be done. To reduce air pollution every person in the world plant a tree at least 2, then plant population become 15.2 billion and save the present forest environment which is sufficient to reduce air pollution and we take quality of oxygen. 1. Afforestration should be promoted.

2. Stop the burning of crop residue which have high C/N ratio.

3. Increase the efficiency of vehicle engine and power plant to promote less intake of fossil fuel.

4. Use clothing bags instead of polythene bags.

5. Plant a tree on both side of road to utilize hazardous gas release by the vehicle."

Thank you, all the participants, for your creative challenge this environment day and. We can't stop breathing, but we can do something about the quality of air that we breathe.

Let¡¯s be creative to bring the change we want to see.

Let¡¯s be a part of solution not the Part of pollution!!!

Together we can !!!!

    Hey Kushal!

Congratulations on such a successful event! It is good that many people could connect to one issue and have the same goal for the greater good of the Earth. I like how the participants wanted that we not only bring the solution to materialisation, but we be the solutions ourselves, because really most, if not all the problems faced today has a major chuck of human influence.
Thank you once again for the report and well done on the planning, organising and successful competition of the event!

    Kindest regards to you,
    Rosa
