[Themed Report] The Story of Earth and Life

by Rosa Domingos | 20-06-2019 16:13 recommendations 1

The basis of how the Earth was shaped, molded and cut to take on the breathtaking scenery it has to day is all described in this one book I had received in my academic years as a scholar. It gave me another perspective on how the Earth came to be and what roles organisms of different Ears and Eons played in order to see such variation in species today.

The Story of Earth and Life (McCarthy and Rubidge, 2005).

The title of the book reads 'The Story of Earth and Life: A Southern African perspective on a 4.6-billion year journey'. I had a geology major and this was one of the first books I had to get. this books deals with how geologically exquisite and value the country is. Southern African is a treasure trove of minerals and rocks, some not found anywhere else. The history dates back some 3600 million years. Moreover, the book displays prehistoric mammals, plants, dinosaurs and animals that were well preserved.

It's been I still have the copy with me

I personally like this books because it truely speaks to what nature looked like before pollution began. It painted an image of how tranquil life was before the inventions and before the industrial evolution.

This books also gives readers an insight of BigBang accounts, where  major mineral deposits are found, how it evolved and how it's landscape was shaped. I was also enthralled by the drifting and colliding continents, folding and fracturing rocks, volcanic eruptions, all this speaks to the science of geology.

Answers to the many questions of intrigued readers can be answered here, but more than that, it would be great for readers to understand the dynamics of their planet and see the true importance of it. If one is interested in the landscape and ecosystems inhabited by our Earth, then this book is for you.

It may be written from a Southern African context, but it may shed so much light on the history of the planet.

    Hello Rosa

Thank you for sharing your book review on the story of earth and life. It seems that this book provides extensive information on the fauna and flora in Southern Africa. Also, it??s interesting that this book begins by explaining how the universe was formed. I really want to read this book to see the nature before pollution began and see the images of them. I look forward to reading your next report. : )
