Soap for Hope |

Fellow Ambassadors, recently I came across an interesting article in a national daily newspaper. This programme, a part of CSR is useful is many ways. It takes care of environment, reduces waste and saves lives of millions of children. The idea is very simple. The soap left over, unused by the guests is not thrown into the waste. It is recycled by an eco-friendly cold pressed method, [after being sanitized]. They do not use running water or energy. After the above is done the new bars are distributed to communities in the Philippines, India & Africa. A single hotel in 1 year produces upto eight metric tonnes of solid soap waste per year. This one is a 1010 room hotel. Small hotel may generate a lesser quantity of soap. The project, launched in Cambodia in October 2013, has participation of over 50 hotels from the UAE/Middle East, which included the programme as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. Interestingly, a sizeable soap recycling campaign called 'Soap For Hope' has been underway for over six years now. You will be shocked to note that every year, millions of children die from diseases that are preventable simply by washing hands. They do have access to a simple commodity called soap. 'Soap For Hope' initiative takes care to provide them with free soap bars so that they may wash their hands & bodies. This initiative has a great impact of taking care of the environment as well as the waste soap is not part of landfills and it is recycled using nil energy or water. This is such a brilliant idea that can reduce wasted soaps in hotels and provide recycled soaps for children in risk of contracting hygiene-related diseases.
