Carshare/Liftshare to reduce carbon emission

Rolls Royce¡¯s Carshare/Liftshare to reduce carbon emission

Dear all,

I have been doing internship with BMW group company ¡®Rolls Royce¡¯. First 4 months with ¡®Rolls Royce Motor Cars¡¯ at Chichester as ¡®Body in white¡¯ intern and these 2 months ( July till Aug end) with ¡®Rolls Royce PLC¡¯ at Derby (relatively closer to Birmingham) as ¡®Stress and Design Engineering  Intern¡¯.

During internship, I have to drive about 1.2 hours one way. Though, on my first day I drove my own car, I was very guilty of adding to carbon emissions by commuting in a car alone. The train, though, are very frequent (& of course the best means from environment point of view) but still would have to spend ¡®my carbon footprints¡¯ in going from my home to Birmingham station and from Derby station to my company. I, then, tried to find out if I can do car share and reduce my carbon footprint. I was pleasantly surprised to read in my welcome pack that our company supports and encourages ¡®Liftshare¡¯ and have a tool on intranet to find your liftshare match.

This is such a nice effort towards protecting environment. This ¡®Liftshare¡¯ system on our site, further so nicely explains the following benefits of liftshare:

1.       Cut down congestion &pollution

2.       Reduce the stress of driving by sharing with other people

3.       Save money by sharing travel cost

I found my liftshare match and have since then been doing carshare. We are 4 of us and drive by turns so that I get to drive once in 4 days. This is a great way from networking point of view as well as you make new friends and share your knowledge.

I encourage all of you to walk if short distances, do cycling or use public transport if possible, else do carshare and do whatever is in our control to reduce our carbon footprint.

Let¡¯s not forget that my carbon footprint adds to yours & yours adds to mine and all ours sum up to form the huge global carbon footprint. We have to be mindful of our each and every daily action and analyse if there is a better and more eco-friendly way before taking any action.

Green Cheers!

I'm very impressed on how you care about your carbon footprints whenever you transport.
Right. Carshare/Liftshare can offer great car service with reasonable price and also can reduce carbon emission. Thank you for sharing your brilliant idea on how to fight against air pollution!

    Hello Arushi

I do hope that you are fine and doing great with your works.
Thank you for your report about Carshare/Liftshare to reduce carbon emission. Air pollution is a major problem and this year environment day also deals with beating air pollution. I had also included this solution in the monthly event which included solution of air pollution.

    Green Cheers from Nepal :)
    Keep writing great reports.
We are eager to read more reports from you.
