World Ozone Day 2019.

by Sandhya Adhikari | 16-09-2019 18:24 recommendations 0

Every year September 16th is celebrated as World Ozone Day or the International Ozone day in order to work jointly for the preservation of ozone layer. As per the United Nations the theme for this year is ¡°32 years and Healing¡¯¡¯. This themes celebrates the 32 year of remarkable international cooperation to protect the Ozone layer and the climate under the Montreal Protocol. In this day the Montreal Protocol on substance that Deplete the Ozone layer is signed whose main objective and motto is to preserve the ozone layer by taking the appropriate steps globally to reduce global consumption and production of the substances that depletes the ozone layer. What the study suggested that in 2018 the latest Scientific Assessment Of Ozone Depletion was completed which have showed that the parts of Ozone Layer have recovered at a rate of 1-3% per decade since 2000.

             History :( Montreal Protocol)

The Montreal protocol was signed on 16th September 1987 on substance that depletes Ozone layer and marks the international day for the preservation of Ozone layer. It is an international treaty signed to preserve the ozone layer by reducing the production of substances which are actually supposed to be responsible for the depletion of the ozone layer. The Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol became the first treaty in UN history to achieve universal ratification on 16 september, 2009.

We all are well known of the fact that Ozone protects us and our environment from the ultra Violet ray which is most harmful ray coming from the sun. Compositionally Ozone is made up of three atoms of oxygen which is highly reactive and is represented by O3. It is the protective covering of the earth in the upper stratosphere and lower atmosphere i.e troposphere. Its major function is to prevent the harmful radiation coming down on the earth¡¯s surface. Ozone on the ground level is hazardous and pollutes the environment which creates air pollution, photochemical smog and acid rain. Ozone in the stratosphere is on the phase of depletions which is mainly due to the chlorine and bromine in the atmosphere. One molecules of chlorine is responsible to breakdom thousands of ozone molecules. Since early 1990s scientists observed that the depletion and ozone reduction mainly occurs on the polar region. Ozone is chiefly depleted by chloroflurocarbons, Carbon tetrachloride, hydrochlorofluorocarbons and methyl chloroforms. If the same case happens in the future then no life could be possible on this living planets. Ozone depletion mainly affects on the health of the human beings, alters the life cycle and capabilities of plants and animals as well disturbing the food chain of the ecosystem, change in the wind pattern, change in the genetic constituents inducing mutation and variations, change in the green house gases leading to the global warming and finally to climate change.

But we can save our planets from depletions and destructions through joint effects so that we can imagine the life of future generation. Some of the products like hair spray fresheners, cosmetics and aerosol in plastics contains CFCs so use of this product can be avoided, Ecofriendly fertilizers can be used, plantation programme can be done, avoiding the burning of plastics, reusing the various product either, preventing excessive smoke emissions from the vehicles which causes air pollution.

Now its we who can save this ozone from shrinking? Lets join our hand globally to act for the preservation of this beautiful mother earth.

    Hello Sandhya!
It's a good news that due to people and governments' awareness, Ozone layer is recovering.
Ozone layer should be preserved for the next generation.
The most important thing is we should act right now.
Actually it's not that hard to reduce the usage of the products you mentioned.
Your report can be a great tool to make people aware of this serious problem.
Keep up with the good work!
