My Story with The Environment

I started to be more concerned with the environment when I was in my high school year. I had started to speak up and do a lot of action for the environment at that time, which I am still doing and will continue to do in the future.

What got me concerned in the environment is people¡¯s habit. I am in love with the beach and its sea, yet people¡¯s littering habit is what pollutes it. I am a scuba diver. So every time I dive under the sea, I would see trash littered below. I would gather the trash that I see below, and dispose of it on land. However, when collecting the trash underwater, the divers have to be careful. We do not know what lies under the trash, or what animals are near it. For example, a Murray eel may be close to you, and when you go and extend your hand to pick up the trash, the Murray eel may bite your hand instead. Or there might be a fire coral nearby and then the diver would accidently touch it. There are always so many factors to think about when diving, and then divers have to be more cautious in picking up trash. In the divers book, a life is number one.

I have shared a couple of times on why trash under the sea is unbeneficial. Sea turtles thinks transparent plastic bags are jellyfish. Trash that lies on top of a coral would obstruct the coral growth. Chemicals would emit from the trash and into the sea, and so on.

In my journey with the environment, I have met a lot of people who are as concerned and maybe even more than I am. I have met people who like to reduce their carbon footprint, someone who does not like to waste paper, someone who brings shopping bag everywhere, and so many more. Even though we are a bit different and even though our contributions are different, we all have the same goal. We want to do better for the environment. No matter how small our actions may be, I believe that action is important to the environment. Lets say you do not litter, then that means you have helped the environment maintain its cleanliness even by little, and who knows what else. So do not ever think that what you do is not important, because it is important. Sometimes we just do not know how impactful our actions can be.

    Hello Ida!
Very informative report about what??s happening underwater by littering.
Environment and human form very deep relationship, so polluted environment slowly starts to respond back to human surroundings.
Fortunately, many people are taking variety of action to preserve the environment. More and more people should join, and eventually we can have our beautiful planet back.
Thank you for the great report!
