Renewable energy- Biogas

by DAVID CHAPOLOKO | 01-11-2019 03:12 recommendations 0

The global population is growing, human beings are becoming more civilized. The growing population is calling for expansion in settlement, food security, good transport and infrastructural development, mechanized equipment and sophisticated digital technology to meet the demands of the day. But for all this to happen, the world needs Energy and not just any other, but an energy source collected from renewable resources which are naturally replenished or rather sustainable on a human timescale, energy reffered to as renewable energy.

Energy is so cruicial to the progress of mankind starting from household level to global scale. Since hundred years past, human beings have been successful on discovering various sources of energy and some have been useful to our planet while other energy sources like coal and crude oil have brought more harm than good to our planet.

It is for such reasons that the focus of the world today has changed from not only discovering sources of energy to power the planet, but also to ensure the world is propelled by energy sources that are green clean and sustainable or just simply renewable energy.

An example of renewable energy is Biogas. Most literature, Biogas is described as a type of biofuel that is naturally produced from the decomposition of organic waste. Such organic matter may include food scraps and animal waste. They can be broken down in an environment absent of oxygen and they will release a blend of gases, primarily methane and carbon dioxide.

From such blend of gasses, energy is produced good enough to be used at both industrial and household levels. The variety of organic matter used to produce Biogas is one reason for this diversity of models for biogas digesters and applications. Biogas energy has been successful in industrial systems that are  designed to treat: municipal wastewater, industrial wastewater, municipal solid waste, and agricultural waste.

On small-scale systemsused for digesting animal waste. And newer family-size systems are designed to digest food waste. The resulting biogas can be used in several ways including: gas, electricity, heat, and transportation fuels.

Biogas is one renewable source which when implemented can be great entrepreneurship opportunity for youths to produce and sell energy that is green clean and sustainable. Households can also utilise biogas from the organic waste for instance sewer systems or kitchen waste. Such energy can help them light their homes, cook and generally reduce on electricity tarrifs.

Renewable energy is the future. Let us utilise whatever opportunity there is to go green clean and sustainable.

    Hello David

Thank you for the detailed explanation about bio-gas. I think bio-gas is one of those renewable energy sources with the highest potentials. They can be generated in diverse way, so there are unlimited sources of bio-gas unless human beings exist in this planet. However, just like other renewable energy sources, installation of facility of bio-gas generation takes large amount of money.
I hope that the commercial viability of bio-gas utilization improve a lot in the near future.

Thank you for the great report.

    Hello David,
    this is your mentor Lisa)

I really think that you have made a good point one of many good things about renewable energy is that it can create a whole new range of occupational opportunities for the future generation. Not necessarily limited to the scientists and technicians inventing the technology required for renewable energy but those who engage in the new market created by those energies, those who would produce new creative products and more could be presented in front of us. This is probably one good example of how one SDG could be an accelerator for others. Indeed renewable energy is the future, our future.

Enjoyed reading your article and I look forward to reading your other reports as well!
