Eco Fact 9: Mount Everest The Tallest Mountain of World has Over 30 tons of thrash over it. Mount Everest (Sagarmatha) is Earth's highest mountain above sea level, located in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas with elevation of 8,848 m (29,029 ft). Every year, hundreds of climbers, Sherpas and high altitude porters make their way to Everest, leaving behind tonnes of both biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, including empty oxygen canisters, kitchen waste, beer bottles and faecal matter. According to the Everest Summiteers Association, which has, in recent years, taken tons of debris off the mountain, there are still about 30 tons of trash left on the mountain. Nepal will make the Everest region a plastic-free zone by 2020 by banning single-use plastics, a move that will curb excessive pollution on the highest point of the Earths surface. The ban will take effect in the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu municipality from January 2020. Nepal is also marking the “Visit Nepal” campaign next year which aims to draw 2 million foreign visitors. |

Thank you for the expectedly informative report.
I'm just surprised about the huge amount of trash left in mount Everest. I've never been to the mountain and only hear about it through the media. It was always clean covered with snow. From your report, I learned about the other side of the mountain.
Human society all together should take extra effort to preserve this precious mountain from the mother earth.
