ECO FACT 10: 91% of the world population lives in the places where air quality exceeds WHO guideline limits. Nine out of 10 people around the world breathe polluted air. An "alarming" 7 million people die each year from air pollution, the report said, as air pollution levels remain dangerously high in many parts of the world. Air pollution is measured by how many grains of "particulate matter" (PM) are in a cubic meter. PM is broken down into two groups: PM10 and PM2.5, which are measurements of the particle in micrometers. According to WHO The mean ambient air pollution of particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of 2.5 ¥ìm or less (PM2.5) in country urban areas ranges from less than 10 to over 100 ¥ìg/m3. In urban areas, the mean concentration of particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of 2.5 ¥ìm or less (PM2.5) ranges from less than 10 to over 100 ¥ìg/m3, and from less than 10 to over 200 ¥ìg/m3 for particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of 10 ¥ìm or less (PM10). For human health, the toxic PM2.5 particles of black carbon and sulfate "pose the greatest problems, because they can get deep into your lungs, and some may even get into your bloodstream," the Environmental Protection Agency said. I'm surprised that it's already 10th eco facts series.
Always thank you for providing informative facts. They are really helpful.
Air pollution is getting more and more serious and more people start to get involved in either direct for indirect side effects. I hope some effective measured are taken to solve the problem.
Thank you for the great series.
