by Zefania Mkingi | 26-01-2020 17:11 recommendations 0

This weekend in our University we had the seminar on the GENDER issues, so as an officer communication and information in the one of environmental club in the university (ESCUDOM) "look in my introduction page",  had to prepare the short speech to present during the seminar, and this was my speech to the community of the UNIVERSITY OF DODOMA, am sure it will be helpful to you too.

Dear Chairman and Leaders Gender Club of the University of Dodoma, Leaders of Student Government of the University of Dodoma (UDOSO), Leaders of Associations, Institutions, Organizations, Clubs and Communities invited to this place, Ladies and Gentlemen Asalam Aleykum, praise the lord.

First of all, I would like to thank the Leaders of the Dodoma University Club for providing us with this wonderful opportunity, the Association for Sustainable Environment at the University of Dodoma (ESCUDOM) to be able to participate in this seminar and to give this short speech, We say thank you very much.

Second, we would like to thank the leadership of the University of Dodoma, and especially INSTITUTE OF DEVELOPMENT STUDIES for recognizing the importance of having a Gender club at the University of Dodoma, in order to protect the interests of the students of this college but also the community around the University of Dodoma in matters concerning gender.
Dear Chairman and all invited, I will talk about Gender position in the environment, the environment is a very crosscutting issue and very important thing for our planet, the environment is everything that surrounds humans in all spheres of life, society as part of those things that surround human.

The environment needs humans so closely that they can either develop and improve or destruct. Humans are creating the environment by ensuring that they are not destroyed by not doing unfriendly activities to environment, and we are damaging them by doing hazardous activities to environment.
Environmental degradation has been done by all people (men but also women). Today the World is looking at a radical change in the climate change, affecting us (both men and women) all these is in a movement to make sure we are building our economy better.

On a number of occasions throughout the world we have been witnessing men taking the lead in the fight against the yelling of environmental degradation and climate change. This is not gender equality in the environmental sphere.

The creation of various organizations, institutions, associations, clubs and comunities related to the issue of gender equality around the world has brought awareness and radical change in the fight for the Environment and its resources.

Recognition of the importance of the environment has increased. How, environmental degradation in some parts of the world has decreased, all due to gender equality taking its place.
Environmental awareness in both ways (both men and women) is one step towards solving the problems of climate change.

Today we see the significant contribution of women and men in the struggle for environmental issues and climate change.

Greta Thunberg, a 17-year-old girl in Stockholm Sweden, appeared with a large poster outside Parliament labeled "STRIKE FOR CLIMATE ACTION", forcing the Swedish government to recognize the effect of climate change. Greta succeeded in persuading thousands of Swedish students and launched a slogan called "FRIDAYS FOR FUTURE" to push all governments around the world to recognize the impact of the country's climate change.
Today the "FRIDAYS FOR FUTURE" slogan is being used around the world where on Friday in various places in the world hold strikes to pressure government leaders around the world to recognize the impact of the country's climate change. All of these changes have been introduced by a 17-year-old girl.

Sara Pima, Entrepreneur Woman in Tanzania, In 2015 she decided to establish an organization that deals with human (social) and environmental issues HUDEFO - HUMAN DIGNITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL CARE FOUNDATION. The Institute has made a significant contribution to Tanzania in mobilizing communities to recognize the importance of the environment and the impact of climate change.

These two examples of these dedicated women fighting to keep our environment clean and safe, but also to ensure that the economy grows without endangering our environment and without causing global climate change, show us that there are many women, who are somehow willing to give and to join millions of people in the World to combat the effects of climate change but miss the opportunity due to exploitation of patriarchal systems and the complexity of life.

We believe through this gender club at the University of Dodoma, it will be a catalyst to awaken more women, but also more men to join the millions in the world to combat the effects of environmental degradation and climate change.

ESCUDOM pledges to partner with this Gender Club at the University of Dodoma in ensuring equality and to awaken more women and men to realize their opportunities in society, politics, economics, culture but bigger in the environment.

Lastly, we thank the entire University of Dodoma community and we encourage and invite Dodoma University students to join this gender club in order to maintain equality in our community. Equality for All.

Thank you for listening to me.

    Hello Zefania,
    I am Alok from Nepal
Thank you for the insightful report, I could learn a lot from it.

Only Man will definitely not be able to obtain sustainable development. Joint efforts from both gender will make possible environment preservation, and leading to stop climate change rising rapidly.
Keep up with the great work, great going.

    Hello Zefania

This was an impressive report full of your insights. Most of your points were persuasive and I could learn about the relationship between the gender equality and saving the environment. Man alone will definitely not be able to achieve the sustainable development. Collective insights and efforts regardless of the gender will make possible the true preservation of the environment, and eventually stop the climate change.

Thank you for the insightful report, I could learn a lot from it.

Keep up with the great work!

    Hello Zefania,
    it's Lisa:)

I am sure that many people were inspired by your speech!
Although it is not very intuitive, I think that the topic of gender equality and the environment are very closely intertwined.
Not only environmental issues require everyone to participate, but also there are so many different aspects within our society that women have a direct connection to nature. Without their voices, solutions for environmental problems are hard to reflect reality.

Great point you have here and I strongly support you.
Thanks for sharing your speech wit us!
