Clean up Drive – Dubai, UAE Fellow ambassadors, this activity pertains to my school days. That is still a memorable time for me as me & my group has participated in many environmental drives & it is good to share the environmental activities so that information is spread and similar activities may be planned by others in their respective regions. Green and white donned the Basketball Court of DPS Sharjah as we, the enthusiastic budding eco-activists lined up to actively participate in the ‘Clean Up The World’ campaign organized by the Dubai Municipality and supported by the UNEP some time ago at the Mamzar Beach, Dubai. Over 60 of us students were active enough to do our bit towards saving Mother Earth. We arrived at the Mamzar Beach and the girls were taken to clean up one side of the beach, while the boys grabbed another spot to carry out the Clean Up campaign. Mr. Nasir, from the Waste Management Dept., Dubai Municipality organized and supported this event thereby ensuring its smooth functioning. As all of were provided apt and sober T-shirts and Caps for this event, everyone looked uniform and ready to nurture nature. Hence, we students from DPS Sharjah helped to reduce the carbon footprint and learnt a lot about waste management. The boys, on their side of the beach, also met Mr. Ghaffur, who seemed quite an enthusiast belonging to this campaign. After the collection of all the litter, we placed the garbage bags below a signboard that said, “Say Yes to Cleaning” which clearly indicates the intention of spreading awareness amongst the Generation-Y about the importance of a litter-free environment. We also shouted out slogans and cheers for a clean, green and sustainable, school, community, emirate, nation and world. In a nutshell, through a practical excursion, I along with my school mates was able to gain practical knowledge about the pros and cons of preserving in Mother Nature because I always believe that, “The Nature of Our Future Depends on The Future Of Our Nature” Thanks for reading. |

This is such a meaningful program! It might have been a tough work, but I can see from the pictures and all the participants were enthusiastic and full of passion. Also this kind of activity will give those participants and people around them another chance to think about the environment and aware of the seriousness of plastic wastes in coastal areas.

It must have been very tiring but I am sure that you had learned many lessons from the activity.
