Pokhara MUN 2020 Day1

by Kushal Naharki | 20-02-2020 00:28 recommendations 0

I had already shared you with the resolution of Pokhara Model United Nation 2020 where I participated as Co Chair in United Nation Environment Program. Now, I am writing you the report to give you the insight of what happened during the whole program. In this report, I will be sharing you what happened in the committee session during Pokhara Model United Nation on Day 1.

The committee started with the gavel and jumped into the agenda. During the first session of UNEP, the dais members started with the¡¯ instructions about the ROP¡¯s used in the committee and later on, the discussion about the agenda and the possible solution took place. In today's session, the raised motions were Environmental degradation with tourists, the Biggest challenges of ecotourism and the benefits of ecotourism. Talking about Environmental degradation, Norway realized that the people are torturing nature and degrading them for the sake of greed like tourism and ecotourism is a better alternative for those issues. Australia claimed Bush fire as the biggest challenge of ecotourism and the fire destroyed 800 billion sources of attraction for the ecotourists. Norway also cited that over-exploitation of natural resources, mostly wildlife by so-called ecotourists is causing a greater impact on tourism. Ecuador also added the contamination from engines, drain on water supply and over-fishing as the challenges and welcomed useful suggestions by the fellow delegates. The delegate of China being silent about the Corona virus issue pointed by Australia was a major disappointment as well.

While discussing the benefits of ecotourism, Kenya told ecotourism as a tool for sustainable development at the local level. Qatar felt ecotourism as the best factor for obtaining SDGs in the absence of other factors thinking revenues from foreign currency exchanges can gain economic development. Kenya believes socio-economic tourism starts with fewer carbon footprints with public and private partnership and the point was backed by Madagascar.

    Hey Kushal!
    It' Lisa.

Thank you so much for sharing your story at the MUN!
I was expecting to hear all about it and it's really great that you had such a rich discussion.
I do agree that ecotourism if managed well can be a way that developing countries could make use of their unexploited nature and pursue economic growth!
Looking to hear more about it:)

Great to see you having fun!
