Flood Phenomenon

Flood Phenomenon
Jakarta, in the beginning of 2020 was welcomed by the rain. Precisely during midnight did it start to pour, and only until the crack of
dawn did the downpour turned into a drizzle. Due to this, there was a massive flood issue. Flood isn't something rare in Jakarta.
However, where the flood usually reached the knee length of an adult. The flood that happened had completely submerged houses
leaving only roofs to evacuate on. Search and rescue, volunteers, as well as other officials moved in action. They helped evacuate the
people, rescued stranded pets, and so on.
Lots of valuables were lost during this flood, such as cars, motorcycles, fridges, and beds. Some of these valuables were even caught
in the flood current and ended up at the river, further clogging the flow of the water. In order to handle these obstructions, heavy
machines such as excavator were placed on the scene. These machines helped dig out couches, washing machine, beds, and other
heavy weighted stuff. Technology has truly helped in this situation, because without the excavator it would have been a lot longer to
clear out the obstructions.
A lot of household items got destroyed during this flood, and they can't even be recycled. Moreover, the people that got effected are
the lower class people. Do they even have money to buy other household items to replace the ones that got destroyed?
Even if flood was a common occurrence in Jakarta, this disastrous flood had caught stakeholders attentions. The usual flood was
caused by drainage issue. Then the disastrous flood was caused by drainage issue plus the nonstop continuous rain. The drainage
being clogged by trash is an unending issue. It makes me wonder on what steps should be taken to solve this issue. Any suggestions?

    Hello Ida

It's sad to see those destruction caused by the flood. It is fortunate that technological equipment can partially help restoring the damages areas, but as you mentioned, there is some economical aspects that are related to the restoration. If it is possible, some technology can predict in advance the possibility of floods and people can minimize the damage.

Thank you for the great report!

    Hey Ida!
    It's Lisa your mentor.

Seems like the flood went through pretty bad!
If it's so common in Indonesia at this time of the year, wouldn't it have been possible to prepare for the disaster beforehand so that people get less damage?
Are there any institutions or infrastructures made to keep the people safe from it or maybe a warning system?
I hope that those people recover back very soon!

Thanks for sharing the news with us.
