How natural and artificial pigments affect human!

by Asmita Gaire | 10-04-2020 22:19 recommendations 0

In our monthly report we are writing on natural or human made chemical effect in environment. However, the thematic report made me more concern on natural or artificial pigments that provides impact in human itself. So, I made a report on it.

Pigments

Pigments means the colored substances.

Types of Pigments:

Endogenous pigments/Natural: Synthesized within the body itself. These pigments are the normal constituents of the body. Example: Melanin, Lipofuscin, Derivatives of Hemoglobin, etc.

Exogenous pigments/Artificial: These pigments comes from outside the body. They are abnormal and get collected in cells only under special circumstances. Examples: Carbon or coal dust

Here I am writing about the most heard pigment; Melanin effect of it's not present in body.

Albinism:
It¡¯s a congenital defect characterized by an absence of melanin.
It's caused due to cupper deficiency in cattle and sheep where there is fading of coat colour.

Examples:
Leukoderm: Local loss of pigments where harness, saddle, collar etc are used.
Vitiligo: Partial or complete loss of melanocytes in the epidermis.

Next is on effect due to artificial pigment i.e. Anthracosis

Anthracosis is a disease caused by the inhalation of coal dust, usually in small amounts, over many years. When too much coal dust is inhaled, the particles cannot be destroyed or removed by the body.
Carbon particles in the lung account for the black discoloration of bronchial mucosa that can occlude bronchial lumen and is associated with bronchial anthracofibrosis. This disease usually presents with a chronic course of dyspnea and or cough in an elderly non-smoker woman or man.
In addition, concomitant exposure to dust and wood smoke is the most postulated etiology for anthracosis. It's most commonly called as occupational disease since person working in mines and coals are affected.

That's why, we can protect ourselves from artificial pigments avoiding the dust particles and keeping an environment clean. While for natural pigments if it's not genetic we can protect ourselves from them by maintaining healthy diet.

So let's follow healthy diet and stay in healthy environment.

Hello Asmita Gaire, this is mentor Taehyun!

Thank you for a report about pigments! Actually, pigments which not from nature, are all problematic. Because almost all artificial chemical and artificial pigments are made from tar(origin from petroleum), they can cause cancer in our body. And as you've mentioned, there are artificial and special pigments from unexpected places (like carbon as you said). It was a pleasure to know all of the different kinds of new pigments!

    Thank you for the report!

    Green cheers!

Hi Asmita Gaire, this is a mentor Sang Su Lee.

Thank you for writing a detailed information about pigments. I could learn different terminologies that I did not know before. Interior(genetic) and exterior problems(coals and dusts) can affect people, and people should endeavor to prevent exterior causes from affecting people.

    Cheers!

P.S. please add site URL from which you've taken pictures.
    Cheers!
