(Thematic report) Marine environment

by Arjun Anand | 25-06-2020 02:48 recommendations 0

Hey everyone!

Hope you all are doing fine... Today I would like to inform you about oceans-why we need them and threats to the ocean.

Why we need the ocean :

The  Ocean produces more than half the worlds oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide.  Without oceans, human life would not have been possible.  Also, oceans regulate the climate , by transporting heat from the equator to the poles.  One of the most important things for trade is  the oceans.  Moreover, Oceans are beautiful and provide us with activities like kayaking, boating and whale watching.   We cannot deny the fact that oceans provide a livelihood for many organisms.  Furthermore, oceans provide a livelihood to thousands of people.  We must understand that life cannot be possible without oceans.

Threats to the ocean:

Oceans are imperative for life on earth.  However, in the recent years, due to human activities, the oceans are  under severe threats.  One of the major threats to oceans is global warming.  It causes water levels to rise, causing life threatening natural disasters.  80% of Ocean pollution is due to land related activities.  Factories discharge untreated sewage and chemicals into the ocean, which cause havoc to marine life.  In addition to this, they also get polluted from oil spills.  Moreover, the ecological balance of the ocean has been disrupted by invasive species like cholera, poisonous algae.

We might feel that we cannot do anything to help save oceans, but each one of us can make difference.  Just like small drops make a mighty ocean,  our small actions can make a huge difference.  Some things which we can do are:

Use fewer plastic products.  This will vastly reduce the amount of plastic dumped into the ocean.

Take note of your carbon footprint and try and reduce it.

Try and spread awareness in your community and through social media.

Hi Arjun Anand, this is a mentor, Sang Su Lee.

Indeed we should reflect ourselves, thinking how much pollution that we've exerted on the marine environment. All developments and technologies were for comforts of humans, but they needed so much sacrifice of other animals, which is catastrophic.

Thank you for sharing a nice article.

    Have a nice day~!

Hello Arjun Anand, this is mentor Taehyun!

The main enemy on land, the plastic on the sea, the plastic on the sea, is the invention of tragedy that brought extreme convenience to humans, but the environment was extremely polluted. We need to get used to the inconvenience.

    Thank you for the report!

    Green cheers!
