Be careful even after animal is decapitated |

There are some animals that don't die immediately or for few days after death.
Octopus when served in table even after ritvdies it's tentacles keeps moving. It may cause choke in customer if not eaten properly. It's because octopus has peculiar type of nervous system with 60% neurons in it's tentacles that works completely independently without any connection with brain; so even after it is chopped these neurons in the tentacles function. Similarly, cockroach even after it's head is detached it moves, it is because they have open circulatory blood system and even after it doesn't bleed much because it gets clotted. Similarly, they don't depend upon brain for breathing but breathe with spiracles unlike in human everything is controlled by brain. But after certain days, it dies due to starvation. In addition to this, flatworms also don't die after it is cut or it's part is detached. Instead these worms regenerates. If it's head is cut from body, head part grows body and body part grows head and give rise to two flatworms. Moreover, salamanders, these reptiles also shows different behavior. When these reptiles are cut example it's forelimb it gets regenerated. It is because it has certain type of protein that helps in regeneration. It is supposed these protein is similar to the protein that helps healing in human wound. It may be proved to be beneficial for human researches. The most interesting one is Snakes. You might have heard in your community that a person who kills snake is bitten by snake someday in their life because it captures killer face it it's eyes and it's friends when they find the snakes will see the killing person face in the eye and will come to take revenge of the friends. For this, snake head has to be completely destroyed and disposed in the deep into the Earth. These are some myths but it has scientific reason why snake head has to be destroyed and buried properly. After snake is decapitated; although it's complete body gets detached; it's head still works. There's some heat sensitive neuron in it's head, so whenever people comes near to them and stimulate them; they think it's threat to them and thus bites them and leave a strong venom. So, we must be careful enough! Picture Source: https://images.app.goo.gl/drz6CfTBwYg71Cxd7 |

Hi Asmita Gaire, this is a mentor, Sang Su Lee.
I always was curious about this issue: how can some animals move after they are decapitated? Thanks to your article, I could know the reason why they can do so. In Korea, the news that states people have died due to octopus tentacle when they eat octopus carelessly is updated frequently. We should be really careful when eating some animals.
Thank you for your report~

Hello Asmita Gaire, this is mentor Taehyun!
Unlike humans, there are some animals that, like you said, do not completely stop their physical activity even after death. The reason for this strange phenomenon is that humans and peripheral nervous systems have different roles and characteristics, and unlike humans, the central nervous system, the brain stops all physical activity when it dies, these reptiles develop very high levels of autonomic nervous system unlike humans. So even if the snake is dead, it can do this reflexively, so you should be careful.
Thank you for the report!
Green cheers!
