[Thematic Report] [Environmental Cost of Human Activities] |

When we go online and search for "factors that contribute to climate change", meat consumption seems to always partake in these lists. But how much exactly do they contribute? I'll investigate the specific numbers in this report.
To begin, we must consider the percentage of carbon emissions constituted by livestock. According to bbc, "14% of all greenhouse emissions are from livestock". Furthermore, daily methane emissions range between 250-500 liters for an average cow. This number amounts to an annual 3.1 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide. When exploring sources of methane emissions, these are commonly from cows burping and farting. Although you may wonder what these numbers have to do with our consumption of meat, the following process occurs: When individuals consume meat, there is a greater demand for these products. Thus, farmers are induced to graze more livestock, which ultimately results in greater carbon emissions. The problem lies in how the cyclical process continues to repeat. However, this does not mean we must all go vegetarian. As habits need to be changed gradually, considering alternatives for meat can help reduce the carbon footprint of livestock.

Hi Jaewon Chang, this is a mentor, Sang Su Lee.
I guess you believed that climate change is a big problem, but there is no reason why you believe like this. Problem definition does not exist in this article. Your solution is really nice, but seems quite obvious. I hope you think more about this topic ~
Thank you for your hard work though.
Green cheers~

Hello Jaewon Chang, this is mentor Taehyun!
I read the article about the effect of meat on the environment. It is true that not only the feed used in the meat production process, but also the numerous greenhouse gases produced in the dense environment of livestock itself are a major problem. I agree that our diet also needs to be changed in a sustainable way to solve this problem. As an additional advice, beef has the highest carbon emissions among meat, followed by pork and chicken. We'll try to eat pork or chicken if we can.
Thank you for the report!
Green cheers

Hello Jaewon,
This is Bal krishna from Nepal.
There is a continuous cycle between production and consumption of the meat. Yes, we have to change our habit. For example: lets say no to food wastage, lets make habit of sharing, and many more simple habits.
Thank you very much for the detailed article.
green cheers~
