Interesting Facts about Tiger

Tigers are one of the most unique animal found in the world. They are one of the species that are almost nearing extinction. Tigers have lost 90 % of their habitat and their world population is less than 4,000. Due to these reasons, there is an international day declared to spread awareness of Tiger conservation. Global Tiger Day or International Tiger Day is annually celebrated on 29th July. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on Tiger conservation. The celebration is done on 29th July as a reminder of the agreement signed by countries in Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia in the year 2010, to raise awareness about the decreasing Tiger population globally. Also, the representatives declared that the Tiger populated countries would make efforts to almost double the Tiger population by the year 2022.It also promotes the protection of natural habitats for Tiger. This international day is celebrated annually with the slogan ¡°Their Survival is in our hands¡±. Also, this day was declared in view of the alarming fall in the number of wild Tigers.

Some facts about Tiger are as follows;

1.      Tigers are the largest wild cat of the world.

2.      They are solitary hunters and generally search for food alone at night.

3.      Less than 100 years ago, Tigers could be seen throughout the world.

4.      Today there are five sub-species of Tiger

5.      No two tigers have the same stripes.

6.      Fossils of Tiger found in China are believed to be two million years old.

7.      A Tiger¡¯s roar can be heard as far as 3 Kilometer.

8.      Tigers are good swimmers.

9.      Bengal Tiger is the largest and weighes around 330 Kilograms.

10.  Tigers have webbed toes.

11.  New born cubs cannot see.

12.  They can imitate other animals for prey.

13.  Tigers live for about 25 years.

14.  They can mate with other big cats.

15.  They have antiseptic saliva.

16.  Tigers stripes are also found on their skin.
