¡°Marmum¡± The name rings a bell for UAE residents like me. This brand is associated with dairy products like milk, curd, cheese that we use on daily basis. On July 27 National Geographic Abu dhabi premiered its new 44-minute documentary Marmum in UAE. The film explores behind-the-scenes visuals of the design and creation of an advanced dairy factory, focussing on the importance of achieving national food security goals. Before I go further, let me give you a synopsis of the developmental history of Marmum Dairy Farm since its inception in 1984. Started off as a small-time dairy, the farm grew exponentially after its acquisition by Dubai Investments in 1996. The state-of-the-art farm located in Lisailly, 30 km from Dubai, supplies milk to many of the UAE households. It is the first HACCP-certified dairy in the UAE and has now become one of the nation¡¯s largest dairy farms with an annual production of over 20 million liters. With ever-growing demand of milk in the UAE, Marmum introduced innovative concepts and products. It has branched out into other dairy products other than milk such as creams and yoghurts, and non-dairy products like juices. The documentary takes audiences on a visual journey about the development and challenges faced by such a large scale innovative dairy farm. It focuses on the use of latest robotics technologies in the bottling and packing areas of the dairy factory. Viewers are taken on a tour of the factory¡¯s roof, which is filled with solar panels. The movie spotlights the selection process of the right milking cows imported from Germany and its arrival process in UAE. The modern farm accommodates 3,700 cows apart from feed area and the milking parlour. Apart from importation, Marmum also breed cows locally which are highly-resistant to diseases, and have a good average annual milk production. At the same time, Marmum has a commitment to sustainability and are always seeking new and innovative methods to minimize the impact of the operations on the environment. Its production techniques are most advanced with highest quality control and minimum energy consumption, meeting national food security goals and ensuring a sustainable future. credits -National Geographic, Gulf News |
