[Free Report] Low-impact development of rainwater cycling in cities (2)

by Seyoung Kwon | 15-08-2020 16:45 recommendations 0

In my last free report, I¡¯ve introduced a low-impact development in cities to control rainwater cycling and its characteristics. In this report, I would like to introduce in what ways the method is utilized and some examples.

  1. Rain Garden: It is a planting zone in an urban area, which rainwater could penetrate to its soil to the maximum. The garden can control the flow of rainwater that helps prevent flooding, and purify runoff water on the ground surface.

  2. Bio-retention: This is similar to a rain garden as it could absorb, filter, settle, volatize, and biologically degrade pollutants using plants and soil. As bio-retention is efficiently utilized in small areas, it is normally installed in parking-lots, the garden of a building, and the middle of a road.

  3. Tree Box Filter: A container-like filter under roadside trees delays running off and filtered runoff water flows through roots and soil, naturally filtering itself again, and reaches the reservoir.

  4. Buffers and Strips: They are designed to handle shallow flows of adjacent surfaces. They slow down the flow of runoff water and settle pollutants down, leading them to penetrate to substratum.

  5. Rain Barrels and Cisterns: These undercurrent storage devices are cheap, efficient, and easy. Also, the range of its applications is wide as it can be used in residential areas, commercial areas, and industrial areas. The rain barrels and cisterns switch runoff water from rooftops to undercurrent, which can be utilized in irrigation.

Besides those five, there are even more ways to apply low-impact development such as rooftop gardens, permeable packaging, and vegetation channel. Then, which city actually incorporated the technology? One of the urban cities is Busan in South Korea. Busan is actively carrying out low-impact development on Eco Delta City with their theme of ¡°nature, human, and technology¡±. The city is suggesting an ideal model of an urban water cycling system that is suitable to Korea.

Hello Seyoung Kwon this is mentor Taehyun!

This article introduced solutions to problems that may arise in the city related to the imperviousness that you introduced in the last article! I didn't know there were so many different solutions! Especially, I didn't know that the solution had so many scientific reasons!

    Thank you for the report!

    Green cheers!

    Hello Seyoung,

I hope you are fine and doing great!

Its great to know about a different method of rainwater recycling. We should conserve rainwater and use for different purpose like irrigation in agricultural land , washing and cleaning purpose.

    Thanks for sharing!

    GREEN CHEERS FROM NEPAL!

    Regards,
    Sonika
