Thematic Report - Ecosystem changes due to climate change

I think all of you will agree that the changes in climate that we observe today is largely and mainly due to our activities. These are leading to a major risk and we have seen that in many cases it had drastically affected us i.e. both humans and the natural ecosystems.

Governments and many decision makers are responding to these risks. The causes and consequences of climate change is being researched by many scientific enterprises. These can contribute to assist the decision makers to review and take a firm decision at the local, regional, national and international levels to mitigate climate change in the whole world.

There are different levels of global warming and we need to set targets for bringing the climate change under stabilization. Implications for global food production is happening due to the changes in the natural ecosystems.

Plants often migrate over different generations. They can live, survive and reproduce within a definite range of climates only. As I said earlier, our activities are having an impact in increasingly destroying earth¡¯s natural habitats. It is also blocking the plants and animals from migrating. In another way, it is also altering the life cycles of plants, animals both on sea and land. The rise in temperature makes the hibernating animals to wake up earlier which invariably changes their migration period also. A few plants are starting to flower and bloom much earlier. These changes will make them suffer and finally they will go extinct.

There are chances that many infectious diseases can outbreak due to the rise in ocean temperatures. It can also lead to frequent coral bleaching events. Due to the change in temperature, corals might get stresses. When such changes like temperature or light change occurs, corals tend to release and expel the symbiotic algae living in their tissues. Ultimately this will cause them to turn completely white in color.

Water becomes more acidic with an increase in carbondioxide in our atmosphere. This means that more carbon dioxide will be absorbed by the seas and oceans water. It will make harder for the corals to build and sustain. It will result in the loss of coral reefs and in turn reduce the habitats for many other creatures that survive in seas. Finally, this will affect the food chain that is connecting all living creatures and things in the seas and oceans.

    Greetings Sainath!
    It's your SJ mentor.

Thank you for sharing report concerning consequences of climate change.
Climate change including global warming causes knock-on effect.
Raised temperature accelerates the carbon dioxide sublimation from the ocean makes more acid.
If we do not act immediately it will be harder to set back.
I hope everything will come out all right.

    Best regards,
    SJ mentor.

I hope you are doing well
Yes, there will definitely be effect in food chain of sea creatures. If the marine ecosystem is in threat then it's a threat to whole biosphere.
    Very informative report
Thank you so much for your report.
    Green cheers

    Hello Sainath!
    This is your mentor WooJoo.

I strongly agree that the climate changes that we are experiencing are mainly due to our activities.
In South Korea, every year the temperature is rising, which results in earlier blooming of flowers, such as cherry blossoms.
I've read an article saying that many ancient infectious bacteria and viruses could outbreak due to the melting of icebergs, similar to what you mentioned.
I like that you mentioned problems about various types of ecosystem, such as corals.

Thank you for writing an excellent report.

    Best wishes,
