Coral Bleaching Coral reefs are beautiful beings that reside in the sea. Indonesia is known for being part of the coral triangle, where different types of corals can be found to prosper in Indonesia. Coral reefs provide a safe haven for fishes, where they ensure the livelihood and abundance of fishes. However, corals are at risk due to coral bleaching. Climate change due to global worming has affected the ecosystem in many ways, including the coral reel ecosystem. The temperature of the sea that becomes warmer due to climate change causes coral reefs to bleach where these corals die and turn white. Corals themselves only grow 1 cm every year, thus we cannot risk losing corals. Coral reefs aside from giving fishes shelter, also serves as a wave breaker. Corals themselves provide oxygen, so it further proves their importance and why we must take care of them. Coral reefs are already in risk of being damaged by careless tourists such as being stepped on, as well as being covered by human trash. So with climate change, the risk of corals dying becomes larger. |

Hello Ida!
It's your SJ mentor.
Thank you for sharing us your thematic report about coral beaching.
Coral plays a huge role in ocean ecosystem as you mentioned.
Due to elevated temperature amount of coral reef is decreasing.
We must pay attention to corals not to litter on the ocean and avoid using toxic chemical contained sunscreen.
Let's do our best to save our beauty of planet.
Best regards,
SJ mentor.

Hello Ida,
this is your mentor WooJoo.
Coral bleaching is affecting the entire marine ecosystem.
Indonesia, as being the coral triangle, would be more vulnerable to this problem.
Due to its slow growth, a very long time would be required to recuperate once it is damaged.
So, preventing is better than curing.
Thank you for sharing your first thematic report with us.
Best regards,
Woojoo
