Day 2
22/09/2020 ¡°Tuesday¡±
#Anonlineawarenesscampaign

What are the signs and symptoms of rabies recognized in animals?
Why are rabies infected animals fear of water?

A furious disease but fake fear of water!

Rabies is medically termed hydrophobia (fear of water or any liquid) because with the onset of paralysis, which also affects the oropharyngeal muscles and the swallowing and breathing centers in the brain, the person infected with rabies is unable to swallow, especially liquid, and has the sensation of choking when they try to drink.

1. How long after infection do signs of rabies show? The virus usually incubates from two to eight weeks before signs are noticed. However, transmission of the virus through saliva can happen as early as ten days before symptoms appear.
2. You can¢¥t tell if an animal has rabies by just looking at it. A clue though is if the animal is acting strangely. They will be hostile and may try to bite you or other animals.
3. There are two forms of rabies: paralytic and furious. In the early symptom (prodomal) stage of rabies infection, a dog will show only mild signs of CNS abnormalities.
4. This stage will last from one to three days. Most dogs will then progress to either the furious stage or the paralytic stage, or a combination of the two, while others succumb to the infection without displaying any major symptoms.
5. Furious rabies in dogs is characterized by extreme behavioral changes, including overt aggression and attack behavior. Paralytic rabies, also referred to as dumb rabies, is characterized by weakness and loss of coordination, followed by paralysis.
6. This is a fast-moving virus. If it is not addressed before the symptoms of rabies in dogs have begun, the prognosis is grave. Therefore, if your dog has been in a fight with another animal, or has been bitten or scratched by another animal, or if you have any reason to suspect that your pet has come into contact with a rabid animal (even if your pet has been vaccinated against the virus), you must take your dog to a veterinarian for preventive care immediately.

7. The following are some of the symptoms of rabies in dogs. However, if you have any reason to suspect that your pet has been exposed to rabies, call your veterinarian immediately. Do not wait until you notice symptoms, because by then it is too late to save your pet.
* Pica
* Fever
* Seizures
* Paralysis
* Hydrophobia
* Jaw is dropped
* Inability to swallow
* Change in tone of bark
* Muscular lack of coordination
* Unusual shyness or aggression
* Excessive excitability
* Constant irritability/changes in attitude and behavior
* Excessive salivation (hypersalivation), or frothy saliva

    Hello Asmita,
    this is your mentor WooJoo.

    Thank you for sharing the second report about Rabies.
    I do not have a pet now, but someday when I get the chance to have one,
    I will remember your report and care well of my dogs in the future.
    Rabies can infect human too,
    so I think vaccination is really important.

    Best wishes,
    Woojoo
