RECYCLING IN KAZAKHSTAN: ACHIEVEMENTS, PROBLEMS, FUTURE

by Amina Kabdyrakym | 03-10-2020 20:19 recommendations 0

Kazakhstan recycles approximately 3-5% of garbage according to statistics. The Ministry of Ecology has separated from the Ministry of Energy in 2019. Therefore, Kazakhstan has its own state body that controls environmental issues in our country. Also, the government has created a so-called Ecological codex. It is a special law that contains various aspects of environmental regulations in Kazakhstan. So, hopefully, Kazakhstani citizens will see improvement of ecology by this book soon. Talking about the community, people started to think about the environment more now, and the global movement toward a sustainable future has its impact on Kazakhstan. For example, citizens use less single-use products. However, there is a long way to go to become a  green nation.
Recycling in Kazakhstan is increasing annually in the last three years. Government works on the increasing percent of recycling to 50 percent in 2050. However, recycling companies doing work only in big cities, such as Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Shymkent, and Atyrau. Additionally, the recycling business is not well-developed in our area. The country still has problems not only recycling by itself but also with a problem with is a landfill. Many cities do not have exact land to throw, which is built according to the safety rules. So, it is a huge problem. People do not even understand how to dispose of their garbage. Most people in Kazakhstan do zero-waste businesses. The zero-waste rule is the best way to save non-renewable sources and prevent Earth from non-recyclable plastic rubbish. For example, using fruit and vegetable leftovers as compost for plants. Many companies make discounts as coffee shops that give a 30% discount because people buy coffee with their bottle. I think every person who wants to contribute to the improvement of ecology knows that Bea Johnson, a French eco-activist, produces only one pot of bin even though she has four people in her family. So,  if every person would follow the zero-waste principle, it will considerably decrease the number of a bin in our country.  There would be no need for recycling. However, our citizens should work hard on teaching them about the importance of recycling and the zero waste principle. I recommend everyone to follow this principle.

    Hello Amina!
    It's your SJ mentor.

Thank you for introducing Kazakhstan??s waste disposal system and zero-waste lifestyle.
I truly empathize with participating zero-waste rule. But it's really challenging to me.
As COVID-19 pandemic situation continuing, disposable masks are essential for preventing infection in a daily life.
Disposable masks are made of non-biodegradable chemicals compounds come from petroleum, that is the reason hard to recycle the mask.
Many research are ongoing to reuse the disposable mask by adding graphene into the filter layer it??s not that easy to handle the problem.
More integrated, complex investigations are needed to alter the single use lifestyle.
But recently many eco-friendly lifestyle as plastic free, vegan, buying eco-friendly vehicles are enlarging.
Let's keep our work to practice zero-waste rule.

    Best regards,
    SJ mentor.

    Hello Amina,
    this is your mentor WooJoo.

Thank you for sharing Kazakhstan's recycling system and its efforts to make a green nation.
I would like to know more details about Ecological codex, since making such law is a complimentary action.
I'm happy to hear that recycling is increasing recently, and I agree that the infrastructure should be provided to every city, no matter of its size, for an increased recycling.
In South Korea, similarly we can buy coffee at a discounted price if we bring our own bottle.
Zero-waste principle should become our lifestyle.

    Green cheers!

    Best wishes,
    WooJoo
